Background and Purpose
The Portland Water Bureau is preparing to replace or upgrade existing water meters as part of the City’s transition to advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). The scope of work at each meter location will depend on:
The age and manufacturer of the existing water meter
The meter box lid material
The meter box condition and location
The field conditions survey will include the following tasks: The lead will be responsible for managing the field staff and providing a quality control review of their reports. The team will be inspecting over 80,000 meters in the Portland Metropolitan area.
The Field Coordinator will collect the following data points at each location:
a. Unlocatable (yes/no skip logic)
b. Lid material (dropdown selection: cast iron only, concrete with cast iron flap, composite, other)
c. Box location (dropdown selection: grass/soil/gravel, sidewalk-concrete, driveway-concrete, roadway-pavement, other)
d. Tree within 5 feet? (yes/no)
e. Photo of area surrounding meter box
