We are looking for Assistant Lead Teachers to join our team! We are especially looking for people who are creative, DIY-lovers, great with kids, and deeply interested in learning more about STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math).

Our Assistant Lead Teachers come from all kinds of backgrounds, including carpentry, education, visual and performing arts. In this role, you will be working with other teachers to teach a classroom basic engineering concepts and to guide groups of (K-6) children in building their own robots. We will train you in all the unique skills, tools, and concepts needed for the position. We need people who can take a hot glue gun to popsicle sticks and cardboard and create something that physically holds up and looks totally awesome - all while having a blast!

Hours

15-20 hours per week

Compensation

$15 per hour

Requirements

-Love to make things with your hands (e.g woodworking, sculpture, crafts, set construction, baking, cooking, etc)

-Extremely reliable

-Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills

-Patient and friendly

-Flexible

-Like having fun

-Believe in diversifying the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) classroom

-Assist Lead Teacher(s) with coordinating, managing, staffing, and executing events

-Assist Lead Teacher(s) with new teacher training, onboarding, shadowing and culture building

-Assist Lead Teacher(s) with organizing and stocking teacher carts with robot kits/materials

-Attend staff meetings and professional development opportunities

-Must be able to lift 35 lbs

-Must be able to walk 1.5-2 miles per day

-Must be able to pass a CPR/First Aid certification (we will arrange a certification class)

-Must be able to pass Child Abuse History, PA State Criminal History and FBI background check (if applicable)

-Must be available to work late afternoons, weekends and school holidays

-Applicants under 18 must have a current work permit from the school district or be enrolled Work Ready (summer employment only)

Preferred Experience

-Teaching/leading a classroom

-Working with children in-person (teacher, camp counselor, babysitter, etc.)

-Working with circuits

-Crafting/making things 3-dimensionally

Location

Classes will take place off-site, at locations in Philadelphia and surrounding neighborhoods in Chester County, Delaware County, Montgomery County, and Bucks County.

Schedule

Assistant Lead Teachers will work summer circuit camps (June - August), select afternoons and most school holidays, as well as some weekends.

Typical summer camp shift: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (½ hour lunch break)

Typical afternoon shift: 2:00pm-6:30pm

Typical school holiday shifts: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm or 10:00 am – 6:30 pm (Both with a ½ hour lunch break)

Training

All new teachers will go through paid training and shadow senior teachers prior to starting. Exact schedule TBD. Teachers will also have to attend a CPR training course or provide proof of certification within the last year.
