The Content Editor , reporting to the Associate Director, Publishing, will perform editorial duties that assist in revenue-generating special projects initiatives across the medical research portfolio (ie: provide systems-related support, assist in special projects initiatives for the Targeted Publications department and the scholarly peer-reviewed journals business, and support the growth of the portfolio. Responsibilities will include:

Oversight of the day-to-day Content Editor-related operations of Emergency Medicine News (EMN; www.EM-News.com ) in print, online, and digital formats. Writes, copyedits, researches, fact-checks, and proos assigned articles for monthly publication for emergency physicians. Formats and edits departments and feature articles as assigned by the EMN Managing Editor. Develops best practices/strategies for driving traffic to the publications’ websites and manages and posts to the journals’ social media sites daily. Updates and maintains the publication websites as required. Researches and keeps up to date with developments in emergency medicine to identify articles and topics for the publications.

Support for other targeted publications, including the proprietary titles, Emergency Medicine News and Oncology Times ; and society-partnered titles, Neurology Today , Brain&Life , and ASA Monitor . Assistance in RFPs for targeted publications affiliated with society that require editorial expertise.

Assistance with Editorial Manager/ProduXion Manager transition, serving as the team resource for customizations, technical questions, and communications with Editorial Support and Production.

Partnership with scholarly journals team to provide editorial value to revenue-generating opportunities.

Will attend relevant publications meetings/conferences as assigned, conferring with Associate Director and Managing Editors about which topics to acquire for publication. Participates in and contributes to regular department and company-wide meetings, as well as publication-specific meetings. Maintains a positive working relationship with staff and editorial boards of relevant publications and potential new partners.This position works closely with the Associate Director, Publishing, to balance content and business needs to meet editorial and revenue goals.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Copyediting, prooing, fact-checking, and rewriting. Writing articles, creative headlines, captions, and callouts. Formatting and editing articles as assigned. Post regularly to social media sites for target publications to drive traffic to websites of publications. Responsible for the Emergency Medicine News enews, editing articles, creating a template for the enews, and pulling and distributing deployment reports. Will serve in this capacity as a back-up for the other targeted publications in the portfolio. Liaisoning with advertising sales on special projects across the Medical Research portfolio and handling related editorial tasks, as needed. Responsible for the new ASCO enews, writing headlines and subject lines, and reviewing, editing, and prooing multiple issues each month. Researching/keeping up to date with developments in the fields to identify newsworthy articles and topics. Report on relevant statistics for publications, websites, social media platforms, etc. Cover relevant meetings. Post blogs and other content to websites, as well as keeping them up to date. Write and post news to the websites. Updates collections across websites. Participate in and contribute to publication-specific meetings as well as department-wide and company-wide meetings Assist with new product planning and development. Communicate with freelancers and vendors as needed. Performs other duties and projects as needed.QUALIFICATIONSRequired Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent years of experience requiredRequired Experience:3+ years of experience in medical and news publishing including: Experience working closely with editorial and design teams Experience working closely with editorial boards and journal editors Proficiency in Editorial Manager or other scholarly publishing peer review system, social media platform posting, and reporting analyticsPreferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications: Editorial experience in medical publishing strongly preferred Strong editing and writing skills Good oral and written communication skills Good project management skills Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Must be detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines Knowledge of social media sitesTRAVEL REQUIREMENTS As needed, on occasion, to conferences and the Philadelphia officeThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by most people assigned to this job.
