Intervention SpecialistThe Intervention Specialist (IS) provides intensive therapeutic services to children and their families in the home, school and other community settings. The Intervention Specialist is responsible for working directly with the client and family and providing support and assistance, when appropriate, to Mental Health Case Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop the child's resiliency plan by including but not being limited to the following:

Assessing the of strengths and therapeutic needs of child and family

Having the child be an active participant

Including parents or other caretakers as members of the treatment team.

Using family and case manager to identify any necessary family support services and develop a plan to obtain identified services.

Determining, in conjunction with child and family and other involved professionals, of the clinical need for special evaluations and services, such as psychiatric medication assessment or psychological testing.

Collaborating with child and family and other involved professionals to develop daily routines during times of crisis and transition, as well as a 24-hour crisis plan

Submit the completed treatment team input form prior to the end of the authorization in accordance with program regulations

Provide child-centered, family-focused, individual and family psychotherapy, as agreed on with the family, in support of the resiliency plan using a strengths-based approach. Specific formats for individual and family therapy will vary according to the individualized needs of the child and may include session with

the child individually

the entire nuclear family

the family and a community resource, e.g., minister, scoutmaster, mentor

the family and teacher, guidance counselor or principal

subsystems of the above, as clinically indicated and agreed on, e.g, parent(s), siblings

Respond to crisis situations using agency taught protocols and techniques in appropriate manner and make referrals to community services as needed

Use Electronic Health Record (EHR) to complete progress notes and authorization of services for every corresponding service provided

Ensure compliance with the Child and Adolescent Service System Program (CASSP) principles and principles of cultural competency during all interactions with the child and family

Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using agency-trained protocols

Perform other duties as assigned

CONTACTS: Elwyn staff, school personnel, parents/family, Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) and funding agencies, child welfare and other state and federal agencies, physicians/medical personnel, community members

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

Licensed mental health clinician, psychologists, licensed professional counselors (LPC), licensed social worker (LSW) and/or licensed clinical social workers (LCSW)

OR

Master's Degree from an accredited university in a clinical mental health discipline, such as: Psychology, counseling, Clinical Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, and Marriage and Family therapy, for example (combined Bachelor's/Master's Degrees are not acceptable). The degree must include clinical coursework in the foundations of behavioral health and the provision of mental health services, i.e., counseling, abnormal psychology, psychopathology, assessment, child development, personality theory, psychotherapy lab, clinical practicum, etc. Other courses may qualify as determined by review of transcript/syllabi. In order for a degree to count as a mental health degree, the degree must contain at least (12) credit hours in core behavioral health coursework as defined above. No more than three (3) of these twelve (12) credit hours can be derived from a supervised clinical mental health practicum experience (teaching/education/other non-clinical practicum experiences will not count).

At least one (1) year verified post-Masters experience providing psychotherapy/counse ing to children (waived for licensed clinicians as listed above); experience utilizing crisis intervention techniques preferred

Knowledge of evidence-based services

Knowledge of CASSP (Child and Adolescent Social Service Program) principles and principles of cultural competency

Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team

Must be able to perform CPR and crisis intervention techniques using agency-trained protocols

Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, and written and verbal communication skills

Demonstrated basic experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook,; PowerPoint preferred

Must have current, valid driver's license in state of residence, three (3) years driving experience, and acceptable driving record

Bilingual (written and oral) in the predominate secondary language in the region as identified by Community Behavioral Health (CBH) funding source preferred; required for designated Bi-lingual Intervention Specialist position
