Lab-Price - Post-Doctoral Fellow

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Alexander Price at The Wistar Institute. The Price lab investigates cellular RNA processing events hijacked by tumor-causing viruses. Example research projects include investigating how viruses regulate expression of their own genes temporally and spatially within an infected cell, and ways in which viruses evade detection by the cellular innate immune system. Candidates with strong interest in gene regulation, RNA biology, RNA/Protein interactions, fluorescent microscopy, sequencing technologies, and molecular virology are encouraged to apply. A strong background in molecular biology techniques is required. Experience with either RNA sequencing, third generation long-read sequencing technologies (Oxford Nanopore), confocal microscopy, or previous experience utilizing human viruses would be highly desired.Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree and must have at least one first author peer-reviewed publication. In addition to the online application, interested individuals should apply by submitting all of the following to Dr. Alexander Price, aprice@wistar.org:

A CV with publication list (published and in preparation)

One-page cover letter detailing their scientific interest in the Price lab and outlining potential interest areas for postdoctoral research projects

Names and contacts for three references

  • Reference #: 9299228 A full-time postdoc position is available in the Li laboratory of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Thomas Jefferson University. The Li labrsquo;s research focuses on a wide spectrum of ectopic calcification disorders affecting soft connective tissues, including the skin, eyes, kidney, and cardiovascular system. Many of these diseases, both genetic and acquired, exhibit paradoxical mineralization, with concurrent low bone mass associated with weakened bone mechanical properties. The studies involve the development of both in vitro and in vivo models of ectopic calcification and the identification of factors that promote or inhibit these processes. The postdoc will work closely with others in the lab in the field of bone and mineral research, particularly in rodent (mouse and rat) model systems. Primary function: To use their training in cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology to design and execute experiments related to NIH-sponsored research projects in the lab. Essential functions: Performs research consisting of a variety of analytical and technical laboratory experiments and analysis. Requires the application of complex methods and procedures where independent judgment is normally required. Independently develops scientific hypotheses related to ongoing work in the laboratory. Independently designs experiments to test hypotheses. Independently carries out or delegates procedures for experiments.
