The Security Analyst is a technical and analytical position with the Pitt Information Technology (Pitt IT) Security Team. The Analyst will be responsible for evaluating, developing, implementing, and supporting security controls while working closely with other University departments. The Analyst will also be responsible for writing code using Python, vendor-provided SDKs, and REST API to integrate data sources and automate security systems such as SIEM and SOAR tools.


This position requires knowledge and hands-on experience in security operations, threat and incident management, and vulnerability management in an enterprise environment. Understanding cloud technologies, web and application security, monitoring tools, network security, and host-based security is required.

Like all Security team personnel, this position is required to respond to emergency security incidents as needed on a 24/7/365 basis.

A combination of education, relevant experience, and industry certifications will be considered instead of listed education and experience levels.


Must possess excellent troubleshooting skills, strong communication and organizational skills, and a commitment to customer service. Other desirable skills include PowerShell, Linux shell scripting, SQL, JavaScript, and knowledge of industry standards and regulatory compliance such as NIST 800-171, FERPA, HIPAA, and PCI.


CISSP or other similar IT security certifications are preferred.

While not required at the time of hire, CISSP or other similar IT security certifications are preferred.
