Full Time: DaylightThis is a union position.Posted: 10/7/2024UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full Time Plumber/Mechanic to support the Facilitites department!This position will work Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 3:30pm with occasional off-hours work as needed. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.Performs inspections, installations, repairs and replacements of equipment and components, i.e., pipes, fittings, and plumbing, to maintain the heating, water, gas, and drainage also to include electrical, electronic and solid-state components and controls associated with the building in accordance with diagrams, plans, operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications.Responsibilities:

Demonstrates safe work habits.

Removes and installs new and existing equipment as directed.

Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and cooperate with various levels of Hospital personnel, physicians, and patients to complete work in occupied areas in a tactful and courteous manner. Ability to read blueprints and specifications. Ability to make comparisons and discriminations when cutting, threading and fitting pipe connections.

Orders necessary parts and material through established procedures.

Changes nitrogen, oxygen, and compressed air bottles.

Provides and maintains the necessary personal tools to carry out craft duties and keeps tools in a safe and reliable condition.

Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.

Assembles various types of equipment as specified by the manufacturer's specifications.

Oversees other trades (ex: Electrical, HVAC, Carpenter, etc.) when assigned to assist.

Performs a variety of plumbing, which involves repairing, cleaning, or replacing valves, lines, fittings, or fixtures.

Assists other crafts in completing their duties.

Ability to understand and comply with oral and written instructions. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics. Analytical skills necessary to perform electrical, electronic, and solid-state circuit testing of a variety of electrically operated mechanical equipment. Ability to resolve routine problems and refer difficult or unusual problems to the Manager. Equipped to evaluate malfunctioning conditions against verifiable or judgmental criteria as shown in blueprints and installation instructions.

Repairs and maintains mechanical and electrical equipment such as, but not limited to, beds, bed controls, sweepers, buffers, plumbing fixtures, sterilizers, kitchen equipment (lighting, waterline strainers, filters), pumps and pneumatic tube system.

Removes and replaces walls, partitions, and other building parts, when necessary, to make repairs.

Documents work functions for regulatory agencies through the Preventive Maintenance program.

Repairs electrical components, which are associated with, or a part of a mechanical assembly.

Initiates and Completes work tickets with the appropriate information.

Updates plans and drawings as required to reflect work carried out.

Makes minor electrical repairs and adjustments.

Performs steam fitting, which entails replacing or repairing steam valves, traps, lines, and radiators.

Ability to resolve routine problems and refer difficult or unusual problems to the Assistant Director. Ability to work with hand tools, making pipe connections and assembling plumbing fixtures and supplies.

· Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through high school and a technical school, or two years mechanical experience to:o Acquire a thorough knowledge of maintenance procedureso Acquire a working knowledge of hospital mechanical equipment and building systems.o Acquire suitable mechanical analytical skills.· Work experience in a health care environment is preferred. Successful demonstration of the completion of the competencies required by the department/unit.· This individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.· They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department's policy and procedures.· May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:· Registered Plumber with Allegheny County.· Plumber
