La Prima Espresso Company is looking for self-motivated, team-oriented part-time baristas for our 4 retail locations on Carnegie Mellon University’s campus in Gates Hall and Wean Hall. as well as the Strip District and Downtown locations.
We’re looking for people who are interested in learning the craft of espresso while building connections with our customers. We are in the coffee business, but maybe even more importantly, we are in the customer service business.
Prior experience in coffee is helpful, not necessary. Prior experience in service is preferred, but learners with a positive, can-do attitude are encouraged to apply.
All La Prima retail stores are union shops. Union membership is a requirement for employment as a barista at La Prima. The starting rate is $20.25 at CMU and $12.75 plus $10 or more per hour in tips at the Strip and Downtown locations We are looking to hire someone interested in 20-25 hours per week.
Job responsibilities and daily tasks include:
Consistent and efficient crafting espresso beverages to the La Prima standards
Providing an excellent customer service experience to our customers
Working on a team of 3-6 other baristas
Learning and communicating information about our coffees to customers
Learning our POS system and making correct transactions and change
Working in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of customers
Communicating with patience and understanding towards customers and coworkers
Active and timely communication with managers about scheduling needs, customer complaints and concerns, and equipment issues
Executing daily and weekly cleaning tasks
Arriving on time to shifts as scheduled and communicating proactively about scheduling concerns or conflicts
Accepting delegated tasks from supervisors and completing them independently
Daily cleaning and maintenance of our espresso machines and coffee equipment
Keeping high standards of organization and cleanliness in accordance with ACHD and ServSafe standards
