We are looking for leaders in the areas of Engineering and Science who are excited about leading multidisciplinary teams and research efforts in a fast paced environment, while also help mentor and develop personnel in this problematic field that has applications in defense, law enforcement, security, disaster relief, human geography, disaster preparedness, and first response. This position may be filled as either a Research and Development Engineer or a non-tenure Research Faculty.ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.You will:

Mentor and supervise department personnel to balance project objectives with continuous learning / professional growth.

Lead programs and teams, and be part of a highly collaborative leadership team.

Lead collaborations with geospatial imagery analysts to understand and automate workflows and improve human processes to advance the discovery and modeling of associations, trends, patterns and system dynamics.

Lead the creation of processes and algorithms to transform traditional GEOINT imagery and open source data into spatio-temporal information describing places, events, and activities.

Model the physics of remote sensing systems to associate real world objects to known signatures and doctrines.

Develop the ability to discover and capture information from geospatial imagery to better represent the most advanced understanding of world events, systems, and discrete entities.

Apply the scientific method across multiple disciplines to advance Image Science and Computer Vision and develop automated analytics through systematic experimentation.

Lead experiment-driven applied research and development.

Lead scientific research projects and develop geospatial algorithms while collaborating among diverse domains to further scientific understanding and analytic tools.

Grow career and capabilities, plan and conduct applied research, provide technical guidance and oversight, lead large research efforts, report results, foster trusted relationships with sponsors, and advise on new and evolving technology and techniques.

Engage in research efforts ranging from proof-of-concept through integrated production systems.This position can be filled as an Advanced Professional, Senior Professional, or Principal Professional, depending on your education and experience. Minimally requires a Bachelors' degree in an Engineering or Science discipline plus 5 years' related experience for an Advanced Professional. Additional education and/or experience are required for higher level positions. A Masters' degree or higher is preferred.Required:

Excellent communication skills, be dependable, responsive, curious, collaborative, and have high interpersonal skills

Significant experience as a Principal Investigator on DoD/IC research programs, and demonstrated leadership capabilities

Relevant experience in a field directly applicable or highly re ated to Data Sciences, Engineering, Computer Sciences, or Geospatial Sciences

Ability to design experiments, perform analysis, and design or apply meaningful metrics to measure results, and teach/mentor others on process

Able to adapt and learn new skills, to execute specific research projects, and to meet task deadlines and goals

Experience with computer programming in one or more of the following: Python, R, Java, C, or MatlabPreferred:

Experience working within DoD/IC Analysis or Operational environments

Experience with Git, GUI development, open source scientific computation, computer vision, physics modeling, or machine learning toolsARL at Penn State is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a University center of excellence in defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas.
