JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:The College of Engineering , Department of Aerosapce Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University (https://psu.edu/) is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar for computational fluid dynamics, applied aerodynamics, and aircraft design for sustainable aviation under the primary supervision of Dr. Jim Coder. Specific areas of research for this position are anticipated to include:

Evaluation of advanced aerodynamic technology for UAM-type aircraft

Aerodynamic design optimization of natural-laminar-flow aircraft

Configuration studies of next-generation transport aircraft

Other related research activities defined collaboratively with Prof. Coder

Expected duties of the postdoctoral scholar include:

Lightly supervised execution of research tasks defined in collaboration with the supervisor

Active participation in program reviews, including debriefing of research outcomes

Travel to technical conferences, with possibility of international travel

Writing and submitting technical papers and archival journal papers related to the assigned research duties as well as assisting with the writing and editing of student-led papers

Mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students in Prof. Coder’s lab and collaborating labs

The primary responsibilities of this postdoctoral scholar will focus on research/scholarship activities; however, the scholar will be encouraged to pursue teaching opportunities, in consultation with their supervisor, to enhance readiness for an academic career.A Ph.D. or doctorate degree is required by the appointment date. The preferred qualifications of the postdoctoral scholar are:

Research-based doctorate in Aerospace Engineering or Aeronautical Engineering with undergraduate coursework in either Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering

High-level expertise with leading computational fluid dynamics research software such as NASA OVERFLOW, NASA Chimera Grid Tools, and Cadence Pointwise

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Documented experience with computational fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, and aircraft design

Established record of publications in leading aerospace engineering journals and/or conference papers at major aerospace engineering conferences on the topics of computational fluid dynamics, applied aerodynamics, and aircraft design.

Established record of public speaking and presentations at program reviews and/or major technical conferences
