The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Benner Township has an amazing opportunity for you to share your knowledge with Pennsylvania inmates as a teacher focusing on the plumbing and heating trades. Our mission is to reduce criminal behavior by providing individualized treatment and education to offenders, resulting in successful community reintegration through accountability and positive change. DESCRIPTION OF WORKIn this position, you will be responsible for adapting curriculum materials to meet the needs of students. You will select and develop a variety of teaching techniques and approaches to present materials at an instructional level. Your task is to provide classroom and shop instruction in a variety of building and construction occupation trades, subjects, and skills that are relevant to plumbing and heating in the construction trades. These skills can be applied in residential and commercial settings as directed by the provided curriculum. Other duties include updating and maintaining inmate education records, student attendance, inventory, and payroll records. Additionally, you will monitor the behavior of inmates and establish classroom rules and procedures to create a conducive learning environment. Interested in learning more? Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week

Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $63,053.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or

If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.

Please Note:The specified parenthetical for this posting is Plumbing and Heating. The specific apprenticeship period for this parenthetical is 3 years.

Special Requirements:

You must have possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical; or

You must have possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical; or

You must be eligible for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.

Conditions of Employment:

You must maintain the minimum teaching certification for the specified parenthetical as defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education's current regulations.

Other Requirements:

Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
