The Department of Corrections is seeking a detail-oriented Corrections Officer 3 for the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette. In this role, you will oversee subordinate staff responsible for the care, custody, and control of inmates, as well as ensure security operations are conducted ef ficiently and effectively. DESCRIPTION OF WORKAs a Corrections Officer 3, you will supervise subordinate officers and ensure that all assigned duties are within compliance of policies, procedures, and regulations governing all aspects of care, custody, and control of inmates in an institutional setting. You will plan, organize, assign, and monitor correctional officer duties, including conducting inspections and completing a daily inspection report. In this role, you will monitor officers’ assignments ensuring maximum effectiveness can be achieved with a minimum of personnel; conduct employee performance evaluations; conduct interviews for prospective subordinate staff; and provide training to new subordinate staff.In this position, you will oversee daily schedules and facility operations involving security, food service, plant maintenance, medical service, and recreational activities. You will also plan and organize inmate movements to and from work assignments, recreational activities, and meal periods. Other responsibilities of the position include conducting daily tours of inmate housing units and addressing any concerns; taking, receiving, and checking periodic counts of inmates; monitoring the surveillance of institutional grounds, buildings, and inmate work sites for possible irregularities in inmate behavior; and reporting any observed changes in the personality, demeanor, and degree of program participation for inmates. In addition, you will participate in counseling inmates on problems associated with institutional adjustment matters of a personal nature, as well as maintain and submit all necessary records and reports regarding inmate activities and incidents.Interested in learning more? Full-time employment

Work schedule is to be determined. Selected applicant will work a 40-hour work week with rotating days off.

This position is eligible for retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Selected applicants who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $52,306.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title); or

Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility. (Note: Persons seeking employment under this option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.)

Other Requirement:

PA residency requirement (https://www.employment.pa.gov/Additional%20Info/Pages/default.aspx) is currentlywaivedfor this title.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.
