AECOM is looking to appoint a Business Line Director for Building Engineering:The Discipline Director leads the discipline with the support of Associate Directors, Technical Directors and Team Leads/Managers.Is responsible for leading and coordinating engineering production activities for an operating unit and will create and implement business plans, in particular of utilisation, utilising the resources across the business.Responsible for ensuring the level of quality is maintained within the business.Maintains regular contact with senior management within the organisation to ensure the business vision is implemented within the discipline.Able to resolve technical disputes and oversee resolutions between business streams.Has a complete understanding of project delivery requirements, creativity, foresight, working with a multi-disciplinary team to meet project goals and deliver high-quality technical excellence.Demonstrates mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and complex operations problems, determining operational objectives and requirements, organising programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities.The role of winning work and market development must be balanced with responsibilities to manage the scale and distribution of resources in different skill areas to ensure first-class technical delivery.Is required to develop skills that are considered an essential investment for continuing competitiveness.
Team Management:Accountable for the operations and overall results of the discipline area and adherence to agreed-upon budgets. Manages a department or group of Engineers and Technicians within the discipline, coordinating activities of the unit- works closely with the Associate Directors, Technical Directors and Teams Leads/Managers in managing the overall discipline.Provides leadership for a discipline and is a competent professional in their field.Ensures the unit's commercial viability and is responsible for the quality and timely output of all design activities assigned to the business unit.Provides effective communication of technical and business strategies and communicates to all staff in the discipline and broader teams.Fully responsible for the team's utilisation targets- utilising the resources in the Middle East, GDC and South Africa.Performs various management, leadership, and people responsibilities for the discipline.Participates in creating, planning and implementing business change management initiatives (i.e., quality management, BIM, project excellence) mandated by Senior Leadership.Recruits, trains, mentors, and evaluates the discipline staff—supports GDC to identify the correct skill-set and provides adequate training to enhance competencies.Mentors leadership talent for succession planning and train staff ensuring discipline skills are up to date and industry-relevant.Advises local management on growth, staff recruitment and retention strategies.
Technical Excellence:Advises local management on technical excellence strategies. Engages with project technical teams within a field of expertise to confirm project approach and review deliverables.Regularly reviews/audits projects to ensures appropriate technical quality activities are implemented to prevent rework. Performs independent expert reviews of high-risk project proposals and deliverables.Advises on best international practice, ensuring adherence to corporate standards. Ensures that all activities are performed safely and comply with AECOM’s HSE/ QA/QC requirements.Maintains liaison with units and individuals inside and outside the organisation concerning their technical sphere. Responsible for independently resolving all technical and managerial matters about the engineering issues within the discipline.Technical coordination with Authorities for approvals of schemes. Leads digital transformation strategy and implementation and embraces the change within the discipline. Part of the global practice line and responsible for regular liaison with global leads, ensuring the best resources are utilised.
Project Management:Can act as Project Manager/Project Director on large and/or complex projects.Drives a culture of financial responsibility, ensuring maximum profitability. Has a solid understanding of project delivery requirements and is well versed with AECOM’s project delivery procedures.Records precise information about work scope from the Client and seeks formal agreement, including change management.Uses Earned Value Management to assess the progress of design against budget and understands the principles of risk and value management when making project-level decisions.
Client Relationship Management:Builds positive long-term relationships with key senior staff in the Client organisation and between the Client and AECOM.Actively involved with Clients and leads business development initiatives, participating in preparing major bids and proposals on the commercial and technical side.Nurtures a Client base and builds strategic partnerships with Clients to secure work for the region following established targets.Contributes to client satisfaction by being responsive in a timely and effective manner for any client queries.Applies acquired expertise and knowledge to solve business challenges and develops the technical strategy for proposals within the area of expertise.Identifies trends, issues and opportunities for their area of the business, industry, service line or process.
Interdisciplinary Coordination:  Ensures assigned teams effectively coordinate with the other disciplines to ensure there are no design gaps providing fully coordinated design deliverables.This includes the support of the construction supervision teams.
