Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly motivated and passionate Research Intern to join our team in Intel Labs, focusing on robustness of foundational models and AI systems research. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing state-of-the-art research in machine learning and AI, collaborate with the research team contributing original research in advancing robustness of natural language understanding and generative AI systems, and implement optimized solutions on Intel platforms.Join a team of researchers at Intel's System, Software and Architecture (SSA) Labs. SSA team's mission is to research and develop software-driven system architecture innovations to fuel Intel's continued growth in hyper-scale cloud datacenters, high-performance computing (HPC) and intelligent edge infrastructure. As a Research Intern in our organization, you will have the unique opportunity to learn and enhance your deep learning and AI systems skills. You will gain experience working in a research organization, collaborating with talented researchers who have a proven track record of publishing in leading AI/ML venues and real-world product impacts. The candidate is expected to have strong research ability, problem-solving and analytical skills.Responsibilities:

Perform state of the art research in machine learning and AI to advance robustness of foundational AI models.

Design and implement advanced AI techniques for trustworthy natural language generation and understanding.

Implement and optimize models on Intel platforms with machine learning frameworks and languages, including but not limited to PyTorch and Python.

Conduct literature review and evaluate state of the art methods in the field.

Collaborate with the team to publish research and transfer technology to product groups.

This is an internship role and compensation will be given accordingly based on candidate education level and internship duration.QualificationsYou must possess the below requirements to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience listed below would be obtained through a combination of your schoolwork and/or classes and/or research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship experiences.Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate must be pursuing a Master's degree or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Computer Engineering or in relevant technical field.

1+ years’ experience in below areas:

Artificial Intelligence /Machine Learning

Natural language processing techniques and generative large language models with strong deep learning fundamentals.

Python programming, and experience with PyTorch framework and other scientific libraries such as scikit-learn.

Preferred Qualifications:

Track record of publications in AI/ML conferences such as NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, EMNLP etc.

Demonstrated deep learning and software development experience with open-source contributions and participation in AI/coding challenges.

Familiarity with Transformer models and Hugging Face libraries.

Research experience in data-efficient and adaptive AI algorithms design and development such as domain adaptation, active learning etc.

Experience in low-precision optimizations and quantization framework.

This role may also be available as our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site. In certain circumstances the work model may change to accommodate business needs.
