Director of Accounting
$35-40/hour
Monday -Friday 8a-530p Orangeburg, SC
We’re seeking a strategic and detail-driven Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting to lead key financial operations . Decision-making through accurate reporting, audit facilitation, and cross-departmental collaboration is a must for this role
Key Responsibilities
Lead daily operations of the General Ledger, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Oversee Grant Accounting, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and regulations
Manage monthly and year-end reconciliations and closing processes
Prepare financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including Board and grantor agencies
Support the AVP/Controller in preparing GAAP- and FASB-compliant financial statements
Facilitate annual audits and serve as liaison to external auditors
Collaborate across departments to promote financial stewardship and policy compliance
Mentor and supervise accounting staff, fostering growth and accountability
Identify and implement process improvements and best practices
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or Master’s preferred)
5–7 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial reporting, ideally in higher ed or nonprofit
Experience with grant accounting highly desirable
Familiarity with financial systems
Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills
