NPosition Type ManagementJOB SUMMARYThe Senior Director, Procurement US + Canada reports to the Vice President, Procurement US/CAN and is part of the Global Operations (GO) department, which is known for taking ideas into implementation across all brands, disciplines, and continents. The Senior Director leads the US/CAN procurement team responsible for negotiating and contracting for over $2B of spend while directly supporting market operations. This position leads a team that coordinates complex cross-functional Request for Proposals (RFPs) and is responsible for broad sourcing and process improvement initiatives. This role is focused on driving cost savings, supporting hotels and continuous improvements to the managed and franchise procurement operating model.Key accountabilities include:
Establishes spend optimization strategy and manages contracted relationships with vendors for key sourcing categories and supplier relationships, including group purchasing organizations and other global/strategic categories.
Leads a team of associates; mentors, trains, and develops the team to ensure they successfully manage sourcing, contracting, and market support.
Responsible for proposing strategic improvements to the operating model through business cases and proof of concepts (POCs). Significant influence skills required to effect change across managed and franchise disciplines.
Champions Serve360 procurement priorities including Supplier Diversity, responsible sourcing, and Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions reductions initiatives.
Supports brand, engineering, F&B, rooms, and other core disciplines in sourcing activity and interface with Group Purchase Organization (GPO) and suppliers.
CANDIDATE PROFILEEducation & ExperienceRequired
4-year bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Hotel Management, or related major
10+ years of business management leadership in procurement
Excellent project/program management skills and ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously
Direct experience managing project teams and individuals in challenging projects
Strong analytical skills for planning, estimating, budgeting, and monitoring program/project work
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas in easy-to-understand business terms
Ability to travel up to 60%

CORE WORK ACTIVITIESStrategic sourcing and spend optimization
Hands-on leadership and ability to drive full procurement lifecycle activities including category planning, RFX processes, contract negotiations, and vendor management.
Manage day-to-day Group Purchase Organization (GPO) relationship and other strategic relationships (Encore, Pepsi, Red Bull) and maintain a schedule to contract with and RFP categories appropriately to ensure cost / quality goals are met. Enforce contract obligations at Avendra whilst also ensuring compliance within the Marriott organization (on and above property)
Collaborate with counterparts in other continents to ensure alignment with brand standard and other discipline initiatives during design, development, sourcing, and implementation phases.
Partner with Marriott asset management, owners, and franchise management companies to improve participation with contracted vendors and group purchasing organization partners.
Conduct make-buy analysis, including market basket and competitive tender of GPO relationship categories.
Own sourcing activity for strategic partners for US & Canada geography. Collaborate with other functions to identify leveraging opportunities.
Operating model strategy
Partner with VP Procurement to establish long-term strategic plans and operating model to optimize $3B+ in controllable spend.
Collaborate with other Marriott discipline and procurement leaders to create strategy and evaluate categories of opportunity whilst maintaining compliance to evolving procurement and finance policy.
Monitor managed and franchise market support needs; evaluate and determine strategy to deploy resources to support market operations and customer service support.
Responsible for business case development proposals and the implementation of cluster procurement offices and GPO enhancements.
Develop, maintain, and document multi-year continent sourcing procurement strategy, anticipating market conditions and company growth.
Market operations support
Provides day-to-day leadership for market procurement leaders for managed and franchise hotels, which includes cluster procurement offices. Travels to markets regularly, walks properties, and interacts with property leaders in service of advancing procurement strategy, enforcing compliance whilst supporting hotel needs.
Responsible for coordinating hotel and regional resolution of supply chain issues while capturing requirements for multi-year strategic work on contracts, supplier partnerships, and procure to pay systems.
Leads the creation and sustainment of a continent supply chain community, connecting hotel purchasing to cluster, continent, and global procurement strategy and support. Implement scorecards to monitor performance and provide training/facilitate change management across hotels. Monitor and improve supplier performance as required.
Monitors and sustains procurement programs, including quarterly business reviews with key suppliers, tracking and maintenance of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), monitoring of inventory risk, handling hotel questions and concerns, addressing contract issues, and working with suppliers to improve performance.
Discipline partner and Serve360
Partner with brand and discipline leaders on design, development, and sourcing of existing and new products and services. Providing connectivity and oversight to involved suppliers and project management with impacted departments and hotels as needed.
Serve as an escalation point for continent and headquarter disciplines, implement corrective actions as necessary.
Advance procurement strategy in service of supplier diversity, responsible sourcing, and Science Based Target scope 3 emission initiatives.
Champion responsible sourcing progress across in scope and focus categories, including but not limited to high profile animal welfare and social/environmental categories.
Expand implementation and adoption of EcoVadis among contracted suppliers. Evaluate improvement opportunities and partner with suppliers and GPOs to implement change.
Serve on continent sustainability team and co-create strategy with other discipline leaders. Responsible to implement strategy and monitor performance to KPIs and commitments within the continent. Create and implement performance improvement plans as needed.
