Car/Minivan Backup Drivers/Couriers Wanted

We're looking for backup drivers.

We have several routes that vary from working Sunday morning to Sunday evening to a route that goes from Saturday evening to Monday afternoon.

The pay currently varies from $371 to $1,667 depending on the route, the vehicle needed, and the co-op maintaining at least 5% profits.

Route Variables:

2 to 26 stops

413 to 1,553 miles round trip

12 to 30 hours round trip (with hotel stays for longer routes)

Most pickups from stops are single packages that range from 1 to 10 pounds and fill up no more than a trunk and/or backseat of a car.

Cars are used for most routes, while minivans and cargo vans are used for the rest.

We'll always let you know in advance with emails that include printouts of what the exact pay will be for the route and any other information you may need in order to get the route done correctly.

Hotel stays with compensation are included.

Backup drivers are put on a list to be contacted in case one of our driver-members is indisposed.

You receive an additional 5 to 10% pay compared to our driver-members to compensate for taking routes on short notice.

If we ever get another route or a member-driver leaves the co-op, we look to our backup drivers to become member-drivers after working with us on a consistent week-to-week basis on a permanent route for at least a month (this is based on the qualifications in our contract which we’ll be rewriting soon, so it may not remain this way exactly, but the concept will remain the same.)

In case you’re wondering why we keep using the word “driver-member”: We don’t have any bosses. We are a worker co-op, so all of our worker-members equally share power over the enterprise and get paid equally for equal work.

We don't want to leave anyone with a false impression of what they can expect.

Driver-members usually only take off due to sickness, accidents, or vacations a few times a year each.

At the moment, we don't get new routes very often, so the chances of this turning into a regular position are very low within the next year. We’re hoping to change this soon with alterations to the co-op, but until then, this is the reality.

You may only get texted/called to cover for one of our drivers 1-6 times a year and we only pay drivers after they send us a picture of the delivered goods.
