A Water Mitigation Technician is responsible for responding to water damage emergencies, assessing the affected area, and implementing water extraction, drying, and restoration techniques to prevent further damage to the property. The technician plays a crucial role in mitigating the effects of water damage by removing excess water, drying out structures, and preventing mold growth, ensuring a safe and clean environment for customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Water Damage Assessment & Inspection:
Inspect properties for water damage due to flooding, leaks, or other causes.
Utilize moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to detect hidden moisture behind walls, under floors, and in other hard-to-reach areas.
Document the extent of water damage and create an action plan for mitigation and restoration.
Water Extraction:
Use industrial-grade pumps, vacuums, and water extraction equipment to remove standing water from affected areas.
Ensure proper water extraction techniques to reduce the risk of further damage.
Drying and Dehumidification:
Set up and operate air movers, dehumidifiers, and other drying equipment to dry out affected areas, including walls, floors, and carpets.
Monitor moisture levels to ensure areas are adequately dried to prevent mold growth or structural damage.
Mold Prevention and Remediation:
Apply appropriate mold remediation techniques and treatments to prevent mold growth in affected areas.
Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations when handling potentially hazardous materials.
Sanitation & Odor Control:
Clean and sanitize affected surfaces and materials to prevent bacteria, viruses, or pathogens from spreading.
Apply deodorizing agents to eliminate any unpleasant odors resulting from water damage.
Customer Communication:
Maintain clear and professional communication with customers to explain the water mitigation process, answer questions, and provide updates.
Educate customers on how to prevent future water damage and the importance of timely restoration.
Documentation & Reporting:
Complete detailed reports and documentation of the water damage, the mitigation process, and equipment used.
Work with insurance adjusters, property owners, and other stakeholders to provide necessary information for claims and restorations.
Equipment Maintenance:
Regularly maintain and inspect water mitigation equipment to ensure it’s functioning properly.
Report any equipment issues or required repairs to the supervisor.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or GED required; additional training or certifications in water mitigation and restoration is preferred.
Certifications:
IICRC Water Damage Restoration Technician (WRT) certification required (or willingness to obtain).
Mold Remediation (optional) and Applied Structural Drying (ASD) certification a plus.
Experience: Previous experience in water damage restoration, construction, or a related field is preferred but not required. On-the-job training is provided.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry or move heavy equipment.
Ability to work in various environmental conditions (e.g., standing water, confined spaces, hazardous areas).
Skills:
Strong attention to detail and ability to assess and respond to water damage issues quickly.
Ability to operate water mitigation and drying equipment safely and effectively.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Licenses: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (required for travel to job sites).
Additional Requirements:
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts in emergency situations.
Willingness to undergo background checks and drug testing as required by company policy.
Working Conditions:
Work is typically performed at residential, commercial, and industrial job sites that have been impacted by water damage.
The role may require working in wet or humid environments, handling cleaning chemicals, and working in confined or damaged spaces.
Water Mitigation Technicians may be required to work after hours, including evenings, weekends, or during holidays, depending on emergency situations.

Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
