Let’s build something together.Primary Function/General Purpose of PositionProvides process improvement, technical and educational support for automated products related to pharmacy and medication management to the nursing staff. Acts as the liaison between Pharmacy and Nursing and represents nursing on Pharmacy & Therapeutic (P & T) committee. Maintains current knowledge and leads quality initiatives to ensure medication safety throughout all aspects of patient care in the organization.Essential Job Functions

​ Manage all nursing activities related to automated systems for dispensing and administering medications including but not limited to the PYXIS and ALARIS systems.

Performs audits, analyzes data, disseminates results, and initiates process-improvement activities to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, appropriate standards of practice, and safe medication delivery and administration.

Monitors and communicates unit and organizational performance relative to controlled substances, overrides, and discrepancies.

Investigates discrepancies and identifies opportunities to improve processes to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and standardization.

Provides systematic methods of monitoring and reporting, analyzing, and communicating outcomes that impact safe medication administration.

Serves as liaison to pharmacy and nursing, providing consistent and effective methods of communicating relevant information to the entire nursing and pharmacy staff.

Problem-solves to ensure integrity of interdependent pharmacy and nursing systems.

Represents nursing on the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee

Maintaining current knowledge of medications relative to formulary, usage, and costs. Communicates Committee activities and decisions to nursing.

Identifies potential risks to patient safety and acts expediently to address issues and implement solutions.

Develops networks with other facilities and vendors to optimize processes and resources.

Participates in and leads cost-saving initiatives involving medication administration and delivery. Conducts quality and cost-benefit analyses of products and medications.

Coordinates training and ensures ongoing education of staff in all aspects of medication administration.

Uses multiple methods of communicating relevant information to staff.

Serves as expert consultant to nursing staff.

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of South Carolina or holds a current compact/multi-state license as a Registered Nurse in a recognized NCSBN Compact State and is not a permanent resident of SC.

Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.

Requires the use of office equipment such as Pyxis console/workstation, computer terminals, personal computers, and telephones. Requires the use of automated dispensing equipment. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours. May be required to take call and/or work weekends/holidays based on the needs of the department. Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice for administration of medications and knowledge of the pharmacy medication distribution systems.

Knowledge and experience in project implementation and process improvement.

Ability to analyze situations, apply critical thinking, identify problems, facilitate solutions, and communicate clearly and effectively with individuals and groups.
