The Technical Support Specialist plays a critical role in enabling seamless technology integration within the School of Nursing. Key responsibilities include providing comprehensive technical support and troubleshooting across a diverse range of devices, collaborating with faculty, staff, and students to configure and optimize classroom technology setups, troubleshooting issues during class sessions, offering guidance and training on classroom technologies, staying abreast of emerging trends, and closely working with the IT support team to ensure appropriate equipment deployment. This position is instrumental in fostering a technology-enabled environment that empowers the School of Nursing community.About the Work Unit:The VUSN IT team provides Information Technology support for greater than 1,000 students, faculty, and staff that comprise the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (VUSN). Talents range from computer programming, networking, hardware and software support, web authoring, computer lab support, materials support, and classroom support. Strong technology support and innovation is the hallmark of VUSN IT support services.Key Functions and Expected Performance:▪ Exhibits knowledge of current computer operating systems across multiple platforms to provide support to the diverse population of faculty, staff, and students allowing them to efficiently troubleshoot and repair technical issues thus reducing downtime▪ Provides technical support to faculty, staff, and students on a variety of devices, including laptops, desktops, tablets, cell phones, as well as emerging technologies like AI-powered assistants, augmented reality (AR) headsets, and extended reality (XR) systems. Ensures that all equipment, including both traditional and cutting-edge devices, is functioning properly.▪ Works closely with faculty, staff, and students to optimize the technology setup in the classrooms for traditional and hybrid sessions. Provides guidance on the integration of emerging technologies, such as AI-powered voice assistants and augmented reality (AR) applications, to enhance the interactive and engaging nature of classroom instruction.▪ Troubleshoots any issues that arise during class sessions to minimize disruptions and maintain the integrity of the recorded materials.▪ Offers guidance and troubleshooting for seamless integration of technologies into the academic and administrative workflows.▪ Remains current on technology by staying abreast of emerging trends▪ Provides necessary training to faculty, staff, and students on classroom technologies.▪ The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.Supervisory Relationships:This position does not have supervisory responsibility; this position reports administratively and functionally to the Associate Director of Information Technology at VUSN.Education and Certifications:▪ Associates degree is necessary.
