Come join us and help shape the future!WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer for our Austin, Texas location.Your initial assignment will be to help drive the successful design of Austin Water Utilities water and wastewater facilities relocations associated TxDOT’s I-35 Capital Express Central (CAPEX) project. This $4.5 billion construction value project is a key element of expanding I-35 capacity through Downtown Austin.We are looking for an individual who is inspired to grow with us and become an integral part of our team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of our dynamic and highly talented multi-disciplinary team supporting municipal Water / Wastewater / Stormwater projects including conveyance and collection, pump stations, storage and treatment facilities throughout Texas, including opportunities throughout the western United States.Your Impact

Work closely with the CAPEX Utilities Relocation Team to fast-track the design of the CAPEX utility relocations.

Ability to lead tasks under the direction of the Project Manager or other senior team members.

Perform engineering calculations, field work, drafting, and writing tasks assigned to you.

Be a willing learner in developing skills in planning, design and construction management of water and wastewater projects.

Assist senior team members in the mentoring and leadership of junior staff assigned to the project team.

Manage project tasks as assigned, ensuring compliance with scope, schedule, and budget requirements.

Provide review and oversight over technical work performed by junior project staff.

Participate in Business development activities, including involvement in local AWWA and WEF chapters, client meetings, development of Statements of Qualifications, scopes of work, Levels of Effort, schedules, etc.

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in a water or wastewater related course of study or closely related discipline.

PE in Texas

Demonstrated experience with preparing designs and specifications for Austin Water Utilities (AWU). These projects must include either prior water and wastewater pipeline projects (either small and large diameter), with a secondary preference for AWU water and wastewater treatment projects.

Five to seven years of relevant post-education experience in water/wastewater engineering either for Austin Water, or with a consulting firm performing relevant work for Austin Water.

Demonstrated and well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Strong verbal and written communications skills when interacting with others, with the ability to express intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

Proficient with core water/wastewater engineering principles, practices, and methods and their application to environmental and project work-related issues, including pipeline hydraulics, pipeline internal and external loadings and design, etc.

Strong knowledge of local, State, and national regulations, design criteria, and design standards. Familiarity with Austin Water Utilities design standards and preferences are required.

Ability to work independently under the guidance and leadership of senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC requirements.

Ability to lead and mentor junior project team members with the oversight of senior team members.

Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, math principles, predictive models, and tools.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with an emphasis on water, wastewater, or hydraulics.

Prior work experience with TXDOT utilities relocation projects in the Austin area is preferred.

PE in Texas

Existing leadership in Austin-local AWWA or WEF chapters is highly desirable.

40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.

Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
