Position Information Posting Number 20112592 Position Title Laboratory Technician II FTE 1.00 Position Type Staff Department Mechanical Engineering Position Summary Information Job Summary/Basic Function About This Role: We are looking for a self-motivated Technician to assist with the research and teaching in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.What You’ll Do – Position DutiesAs a member of our team, you will have an impact on our clients through accomplishment of the following responsibilities:

Keeping the equipment, computers and materials used in our teaching labs well maintained.

Maintaining the operation of computers in labs, offices, and classrooms, including software installation and update.

Maintaining the chemical inventories and required SDSs and other documentation in our labs.

Assisting with safety procedures, training, ppe and inspections in our laboratories.

Assisting with departmental equipment/property inventories and records.

Assisting with departmental and faculty purchasing, ordering, and receiving and handling of computer and laboratory items.

Helping faculty members install, update and maintain the materials and equipment in their research area

Performing other jobs as needed for teaching and research assigned by departmental chair.

Bachelor’s degree or Associate Degree with experience.

2 years in mechanical or computer related work.

Key Competencies:

Good communication skills and ability to interpret oral/written instructions.

Knowledge of preventive maintenance and repair;

Operational knowledge of manual/power tools.

Skills and experience in computer systems, including hardware and CAD / CAM software.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry 25-50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally

May include special safety audits, manual edits and procedure writing Operates the basic electric/electronic test equipment (DC power supplies, milliamp calibrators, millivolt calibrators, multimeters, signal sources, function generators, oscilloscopes, decade boxes, Wheatstone bridges, impedance testers and frequency generators); calibration procedures for electric and electronic transmitters, controllers and control valve actuators; bench repair of various electric and electronic instruments and components (circuit boards, power supplies, relays, receiver and transmitter elements). Inspects and replaces power cords and distribution cables. Locates and replaces faulty resistors, capacitors, inductors, transistors, IC units and printed circuit (PC) boards.
