Supports laboratory research by maintaining, repairing or refurbishing commonly used laboratory equipment; creatively designing or adapting equipment to meet specific needs. Maintain accurate inventory records. Perform laboratory safety officer functions. Works on special projects as assigned. Works with vendors to maintain department and building equipment under warranty or service agreements and to ensure delivered equipment is functional and not damaged. This includes escorting vendors and technicians.

Supports building equipment and facilities by ensuring equipment is monitored on a routine basis and is on on-call 24/7 rotation for after hour emergencies. Will be considered essential personnel.

Develops and implements laboratory safety materials and equipment use to include facilitation of training as required.

Assist in developing SOPs and updating lab placards. Establishes appointment as Unit Safety Officer from Safety Services within 6 months of accepting position.

Conducts routine monitoring of cold room readings, water conductivity, glass boxes, biohazard bins, CO2 deliveries, freezers and equipment under the purview of the department, eye wash stations, autoclaves, etc. Backup administrator for Watchdog system to the animal facility known as the LARC.

Assists with the tracking of Facilities and IT related work orders in support of departmental and building operations.

Maintains, troubleshoots, responds, repairs to building and laboratory equipment and creatively designing or adapting department and building equipment to meet specific needs, including coordination with institutional support departments such as facilities services and IT, as necessary. Ability to lift heavy equipment when needed using appropriate techniques, safety PPE, and under the supervision of Associate Director.

Tracking of all tagged assets by location; conduct 100% physical inventory of all tagged assets annually; evaluate all tagged and non-tagged assets for surplus as appropriate; assist with quotes and purchases of capital assets and other equipment. Update inventory in the asset management system as needed and departmental spreadsheet.

Oversees the management of the Accsense Freezer Monitoring System by reviewing, verifying and updating all department call lists and freezer monitoring contacts as changes occur.

Responsible for the prompt remediation of building or lab related incidents in collaboration with institutional support departments, as appropriate.

Assists in conducting security checks of labs and secured areas. Ensures prompt remediation of resolving safety issues, in collaboration with Safety Services and security risks with TTPD, as appropriate.

Assists with special projects related to the research buildings, including renovations, energy conservation, compatibility checks for new equipment requests, emergency power, etc. Update maps and equipment location.

Manages the use and maintenance of the department's golf cart. Processes individual requests for golf cart access and use. Processes annual renewals or new driver requests.

Submit required Sysaid tickets.

Adhere to all TTUHSCEP policies, procedures and processes.

Personally demonstrate, display, and act in accordance with TTUHSCEP’s values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Actively promote and encourage staff across the institution.

Completes all other duties assigned.

Knowledge of basic and clinical science laboratory functions and needs.

Ability to implement and assess service agreements and warranties.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Experience supporting laboratory research by maintaining/assisting in repair calls to vendors and overall understanding of lab equipment use.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, WebEx, and general office equipment.

Experience working in a microbiology lab, knowledge of building operations and maintenance, 24/7 on-call, supporting laboratory equipment in a higher education setting.
