38310BRExtended Job Title:Coding Specialist (Medical Coding/Alberta)Org Level 1:Texas Tech Unv Hlth Sci Ctr El PasoPosition Description:Review medical record provider documentation and assign appropriate CPT, HCPCS and/or ICD-10-CM codes for provider services (in accordance with the Standards of Ethical Coding set forth by the American Association of Professional Coders and American Health Information Management Association while ensuring accurate completion of responsibilities by established deadlines, resulting in maximum financial return. Assign CPT, HCPCS and/or ICD-10-CM diagnosis and/or modifiers and procedure codes for physician/provider services consistent with coding compliance policies, ICD-10-CM Official Coding Guidelines and regulatory guidelines
Communicate with physicians, residents, staff and other providers to resolve situations where the recommended coded services are not supported in the health record documentation and/or not consistent with coding and regulatory guidelines
Communicate and educate the physician, resident, staff and other providers when additional information is needed for accurate code assignment
Review claim denials. Resubmit corrected claims by required filing deadlines.
Perform charge data entry for billing in C-BIZ. Batch daily for all coded charges and reconcile by end-of-day
Meet volume/productivity and accuracy targets set forth by department director (or designee)
Assist in providing and analyzing reports related to documentation issues, coding patterns, physician productivity, reimbursement trends, etc.
Participate in internal coding and development and training for physicians, residents, medical students and qualified health professional (QHP) staff
Personally demonstrate, display and act in accordance with TTUHSC El Paso's Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork).
Adhere to TTUS, TTUHSC El Paso and departmental policies, procedures and regulations

Minimum 3 years experience with medical coding and/or billing
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding and/or experience with CMS regulations/industry standards
Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy and physiology
Associate's degree from two-year College or technical school
Medical coding experience for a physician group, hospital and/or academic health sciences/medical center
Strong overview of Medicare and Medicaid billing compliance
Completion of ICD-10 training curriculum
