Accountant Senior I/II Job ID #: 29784 Location: TX-HOUSTON Functional Area: Accounting Position Type: Full Time Experience Required: 5 - 7 Years Relocation Provided: No Education Required: Bachelors Degree RC/Department: 6209 -PPL - ACCOUNTING :KMI Position Description DESCRIPTION:The ideal candidate is degreed with solid accounting experience, has a strong working knowledge of the energy industry and is able to work with the accounting team and all levels of staff and management to handle or assist with various accounting & finance functions in the liquids terminal business. Candidates with strong analytical skills and a preference for a challenging and fast-paced work environment will be successful in this position.

Perform and assist with monthly close procedures for the SE region including monthly customer invoicing for assigned business and preparation of various journal entries

Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensure compliance with GAAP and SOX requirements

Understand revenue and expense accounting recognition principles

Understand and apply Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls

Review and analyze contracts that relate to the recording of revenue for the region. Understand KM’s ASC 606 and 842 reporting requirements and prepare schedules for quarterly ASC 606 backlog calculations

Maintain butane blending inventory valuation including monthly sales, related RINs obligations, COGS, butane hedging entries and all related journal entries and schedules

Prepare ad-hoc reports and analysis as requested by management and corporate accounting

Maintain a regular, dependable attendance, and high level of performance

Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public

Perform other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited institution is required

5-7+ years of GL accounting experience

Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes, with ability to solve complex problems through solution oriented analysis and cost effective solutions

Exhibit a high degree of initiative and ability to perform responsibilities with minimal supervision

Must possess and demonstrate strong verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to communicate with a variety of individuals and personalities at all levels, internally and externally

Ability to organize work effectively, prioritize daily work (individual and department, as applicable), reprioritize on short notice, and maintain strict confidentiality

Must be able to successfully perform multiple tasks simultaneously, while maintaining a high quality of work product

Ability to work overtime during high volume periods, including but not limited to month/quarter/year end close

A team player who also works well independently, take direction from supervisor(s) and lead personnel, focus attention on details, follow work rules, and adhere to established work schedules

Intermediate to advanced proficiency level in Microsoft Office applications including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel and Access

Working knowledge of Lawson preferred

Working experience in the Oil and Gas industry preferred
