The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.KEY FUNCTIONSIntervention and Counseling Recruits, consents, and completes necessary on-boarding for participants, inclusive of scheduling study-related assessments. Delivers manualized behavioral or psychological interventions and assessment techniques based on cognitive behavioral principals, motivational interviewing, mindfulness training, and other similar treatment approaches to couples (i.e., patients and spouses) facing end of life issues participating in behavioral and clinical care and research protocols. Collaborates with PI, Co-Investigators, and other research and clinical personnel in preparation of oral and written presentations. These include other interventionists on the team, such as study coordinators, mind/body interventionists, psychologists or other therapists. Conducts comprehensive patient and family assessments for emotional distress. Participates in developing treatment plans according to protocol. Provides individual, group, marital and family counseling, including adults, children and adolescents Works with more senior staff and/or clinical supervisor to deliver individualized psychologically based treatment plans. Performs quality assurance procedures to assure accurate data collection and entry.Documentation & Quality Control Maintains appropriate documentation of all study and clinical activities and initiates discussion of clinical issues with the Principal Investigator and other designated clinical and research staff as they arise. Participates in weekly strategy meetings aimed at identifying needed protocol and procedural changes, coordinating the ongoing implementation of the research or care protocol, and defining recruitment strategies.Patient Research Study Education Conducts educational presentations to the community addressing familial concern. Maintains intra-and inter-institutional liaison with clinical/medical personnel as well as investigative staff through oral and written communication. This involves the use of the telephone in a clear concise manner and face-to-face interaction, and a computer keyboard, word processing spreadsheets and database software. Other duties as assigned.
