Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.Shift- 3:00pm - 11:30pmThe primary purpose of the Clinical Investigation Technician position is to coordinate with the assigned nurse in order to collect time sensitive clinical protocol specimens ordered for patients and deliver them to the laboratory for processing. Additionally, the Clinical Investigation Technician is responsible for the timely processing and shipment of these clinical protocol specimens. This position directly impacts the quality and timeliness of specimen review.Key Functions1. Phlebotomy/Processing (50%)
Collect, store, and label patient samples for laboratory analysis, ensuring accuracy and compliance with protocols.
Maintain sufficient stock of general and phlebotomy supplies to support sample collection procedures.
Enter sample data into the database following prescribed procedures to ensure accurate record-keeping.
Process samples according to protocol requirements, including centrifugation for plasma or serum extraction.
Label, pipette, transfer, and store samples in appropriate containers at specified temperatures.
2. Record Keeping (25%)
Maintain accurate daily log of all samples collected and serve as contact for status of samples collected from patients on given protocols.
Record shipments to sponsor pharmaceutical companies.
Serve as an information source of sample status for collaborators and sponsors.
Collect and organizes information for project reports.
3. Research Related Activities (25%)
Perform EKGs for protocol patients, as assigned.
Package samples so that they arrive at destination in a suitable condition.
Arrange shipment of sample boxes with a suitable air freight carrier and contact collaborators or sponsor personnel to coordinate shipments and verify receipt of samples.
Handle dry ice.
Perform routine laboratory jobs (glassware washing, contact hazardous waste collection services, package medical waste in biohazard bags, etc.).

Phlebotomy certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
Phlebotomy certification from the International Academy of Phlebotomy Science.
