Collects, analyzes, and monitors data relevant to maintaining water quality in the distribution system. Compares readings with established operational ranges to evaluate system performance. Assists contractors with collecting regulatory samples. Conducts flushing at fire hydrants and investigates valves to verify distribution system operation. Interfaces with customers and provides assistance with selecting and evaluating sample locations. Communicates and coordinates work with contractors, and laboratory staff, and other operators by telephone and e-mail. Work consists of reviewing and complying with standard procedures and tasks where analytic ability is required. Performs other duties as requested. Some overtime and weekend work is required.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/WORKING CONDITIONSThe position requires lifting of heavy items of up to 60 pounds and/or walking on rough surfaces routinely and/or regular physical exertion such as climbing of ladders.This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier 2 Level.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a high school diploma or GED certificateEXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS No experience is required.LICENSE REQUIREMENTSA valid Texas Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving (AP 2-2)Within one year of entry into classification, must obtain a Texas Class “D” Water Operator’s certificate. Must obtain a Texas Class “C” Water Operator’s certificate appropriate to position location, such as surface water, groundwater, distribution, maintenance wastewater plant or water, within two (2) years after obtaining “D” certification.PREFERENCESPreference will be given to the applicants who have distribution system operations experience.
