What You'll Get to Do:

CACI is looking for a Space Vehicle Systems Modeling and Simulation Engineer to work with NASA's human-rated spacecraft systems in support of our Nation's space exploration effort at NASA / Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. Candidates should have strong interest in spacecraft vehicles and systems, enjoy working with software, and most of all, possess a great passion to contribute to our Nation's exploration of space.

This work involves math model and simulation development, simulation integration, and distributed simulation development on Linux PC platforms using the Trick Simulation Environment and Development Toolkit developed by CACI. Individual will integrate third-party simulations with Trick-based simulations developed at NASA in support of the Gateway program. It may also include conducting analyses of complex space vehicle systems and will development high-fidelity simulation math models. The ideal candidate has spacecraft domain experience in one or more of the following areas: avionics command and data handling; electrical power; environmental control and life support; fluids and thermal; orbital dynamics; Guidance, Navigation, and Control; and mechanical, dynamics and control.

This work takes place in a highly stimulating environment and is critical in the human space exploration initiative. The position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must be very people savvy, strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise. Finally, the most qualified candidate will be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner, must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program, and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles.

More About the Role:

Job Responsibilities will include:

  • Space vehicle system, and subsystem simulation math model requirements, architecture definition, and design.
  • Simulation model development and integration.
  • Integration of third-party simulations with Trick simulations
  • Distributed simulation development
  • Space vehicle system performance analysis, evaluation, and comparison.
  • Debug, test, and verification work with simulation math models and simulation facilities.
  • Space vehicle functional and flight software integration.


You'll Bring These Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident for access to USG facilities.
  • B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical/Computer, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines required.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience with Unix/Linux OS, C languages, and Python scripting. Greater experience is highly valued.
  • Experience with Linux.
  • Experience with real time software applications.
  • Experience developing simulations with High Level Architecture (HLA) or other distributed simulation methods
  • Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment, and possess strong technical expertise combined with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.
  • Must be highly mature and responsible, and team-oriented with strong communication skills and work ethic.


These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
  • 5+ years of experience developing spacecraft simulation models. Greater experience is highly valued.
  • Experience with the NASA / CACI Trick Simulation Environment is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
  • Experience with NASA / CACI General-Use Nodal Network Solver (GUNNS).
  • Experience in multi-threaded programming or 1553 bus protocol.
  • M.S. in Engineering disciplines listed above or Computer Science, or Graduate level coursework or research involving dynamics and controls, flight/orbital mechanics, robotics, space vehicle systems, or software simulation is a plus.
