SummaryThe primary purpose of the Medical Assistant position is to act as lead technical assistant in preparing patients for medical visits and procedures. The Medical Assistant impacts patient care to patients in the Lymphoma/Myeloma Center under the supervision of the clinical staff.MD Anderson Cancer is seeking a Medical Assistant in its Lymphoma Myeloma Center. Ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of Medical Assistant experience and will be a certified Medical Assistant.The department is seeking candidates that are reliable professionals, who possess flexibility, the ability to multitask, and are quick learners.Shift: Monday - Friday 8 hour shift will vary from 7:00 am - 5:30 pm based on business needKey Functions

Assists with patient examinations, treatments and procedures. Assists nurses with preparing clinics for the day.

Prepare exam rooms prior to patients' arrival. Escorts patients into the room along with required paperwork to facilitate clinic visit.

Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician's care. Notifies nurse of abnormal parameters.

Documents accurately in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work.

Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review. Collects and transports laboratory specimens. Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure.

Escorts patients from the room at the end of the visit and answers clearly and professionally any questions the patient may have. May have to assist in transportation issues, including but not limited to pushing patients in wheelchairs/stretchers, helping patients move from wheelchair to table.

Cleans, stores, prepares and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment. Maintains inventories of medical supplies. Stocks exam rooms with required levels of supplies. Reports any equipment in need of repair/maintenance to Nurse Manager, CAD or CBM.

EDUCATIONRequired: High school diploma or equivalent.Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.EXPERIENCERequired: One year of medical assistant experience.
