Assesses, plans, and implements nursing care while ensuring patient comfort.

Anticipates, identifies, and responds to informational and emotional needs of patients and families.

Guides and directs healthcare personnel (i.e., Patient Care Technicians) in caring for patients.

Maintains knowledge of equipment setup, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices) Utilizes safeguards such as IV pump drug library and monitor alarms with necessary.

Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).

Assists with patient care duties/tasks (i.e., emptying drainage devices, ambulating, and hygiene).

Full-Time positions

Days, nights, and weekend shifts are available

13-week assignments (may be extended based on business need)

36 hours per week guaranteed

Minimum 2 years of experience as a med/surg acute registered nurse

ADN or Nursing Diploma

Current unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse from the state(s) in which he or she will be practicing and/or compact state license

Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS.)

Other credentials may be required based on specialty and area(s) of assignment as specified by the requesting facility, state license and other regulatory requirements for local, state and federal agencies.

Certification in specialty preferred; certifications and competencies to support care area and patient population served.

  • At Houston Methodist, the Sr Staff Registered Nurse (RN) position is responsible for functioning as an advanced clinician at the Proficient level according to Benner\'s model of clinical practice. The Sr Staff RN position provides professional direct patient nursing care to a diverse patient population, which may include patients with varied and complex needs, and is considered an expert in a specialty. Besides conducting nursing assessments, assisting with exams and treatment and maintenance of medical records, this position assists in coaching and mentoring department staff in areas of clinical and professional practice. Role modeling compassionate communication with physicians and the interprofessional health care team, the Sr Staff RN position assumes leadership responsibilities with high level contributions in the department and across the institution. Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to leading department clinical activities, assessing department needs related to practice and improvement opportunities, serving as a clinical resource for department staff and coordinating department education in partnership with management.
