This supervisor has primary responsibility for implementation of the department's preventative maintenance plan for access control and security technologies utilized on campus utilizing assigned staffing resources. Additionally, this position has emergency repair or installation responsibility for access control and security technologies such as burglar/panic alarm systems, video management systems and cameras, card access systems, and selected fundamental electronic systems. This position reports to the Supervisor of Technical Services.KEY FUNCTIONSPlanning and Organization Plans, organized, coordinates, and supervises the work of Electronic Technicians in the preventive maintenance duties related to access control and security technologies such as burglar/panic alarm systems, video management systems and cameras, card access systems, and selected fundamental electronic systems. Responsible for the safe shop operations of Electronic Technicians. Plans, schedules, and estimates time and materials necessary for maintenance jobs. Orders materials and supplies as needed. Trains coaches and monitors direct reports.Access Control and Documentation Maintains accurate file systems documenting activities of the Technical Services preventative maintenance plan and other important and vital areas of responsibility for the access control and security technology systems. Provides technical oversight and quality control for vendor designed and installed burglar/panic alarm systems, video management systems and cameras, card access systems, and selected fundamental electronic systems. In coordination with the Supervisor of Technical Services, maintains an accurate listing of parts used for maintenance of systems and inventory purposes.Inventory and Troubleshooting Diagnose, develop, and implement effective strategies to repair inoperable access control and security technologies such as burglar/panic alarm systems, video management systems and cameras, card access systems, and selected fundamental electronic systems. Install wire or wireless alarm systems and individual components. Install modern card access systems to include door contacts, magnetic locks, rex devices (motion or switch), monitoring modules, card sensors, system configuration wiring, connectors, communication devices, ACU programming, UPS and batteries and remote door unlock devices. Install state-of-the-art closed-circuit television and video cameras including system components when necessary.Other Duties Assigned Other duties to include, but not limited to, emergency recall and/or may be required to remain onsite or work extended hours during man-made or natural disasters and unusual occurrences on campus. Local or long distance travel may be required for training or other business purposes occasionally.Education Required: High school graduate or equivalent, supplemented by technical training in electronics.Experience Required Five years of experience in the skilled construction and maintenance of electronic equipment to include one year of supervisory experience.Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.
