Bachelor’s degree in relevant field study or equivalent years’ of work-related experience

Work Experiences:

3+ years of experience in retail management

Previous experience in merchandising and visual implementation

Skills:

Self-motivated, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Leadership skills to inspire, lead and manage a retail project team

Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members

Ability to remain organized, pay attention to detail, work well under pressure and meet critical deadlines

Analytical with strong problem-solving and creative resolution skills, demonstrating teamwork, innovation, and excellence

Ability to delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate project team members

Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to interface effectively with individuals at various levels inside and outside of the organization

Strong understanding and ability to train merchandising and visual execution

Strong Microsoft Office program experience, including Power Point, Excel and Word

Responsibilities:

Develop and manage all aspects of New, Relocation and/or Update store projects, including: execution planning, external vendor relationships, communications, resources, budget, change, risks and other issues as arise.

Manage the execution of fixture/visual/merchandise 3rd party vendor contracted services and provide on-site leadership for project teams

Ensure that projects are proceeding according to scope, schedule, budget and quality standards

Ensure financial targets relating to budget, wages and other controllable expenses are met

Set and continually manage project expectations while delegating and managing deliverables with team members and stakeholders

Execute project plans, milestones, and activities for all phases of the project

Manage day-to-day project activities and resources to adequately achieve project objectives in planned timeframes

Lead project team meetings, during the pre-planning, project execution and project close-out phases

Monitor, track and control outcomes to resolve issues, conflicts, dependencies and critical path deliverables

Report on project progress and success criteria results, metrics, tests and management activities

Lead and act as an internal quality control check for the project

Manage recruiting and hiring processes for an assigned project team

Monitor staff performance and oversee performance evaluation of project teams to ensure that talent mobility, development and management goals are met

Participate in establishing best practices, templates, policies, tools and partnerships to expand and mature these capabilities and provide greater efficiencies for the organization

Develop a thorough understanding of Academy’s policies, procedures and safety rules.

Duties may change; team member may be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements & Attendance

80% travel as needed

Able to work evening, weekends and Holidays as needed

Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties.

Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures and rules governing professional staff behavior

  • The Manager in Training (MIT) position is expected to be a short-term transitional role that provides both work assignments and training opportunities to prepare MITs to be promoted into Retail/Commercial Store Management positions. From the date of entry into the AutoZone MIT program, it may be possible to progress to a management position within approximately 8-12 weeks, depending on the prior experience and performance of the MIT.
