39719BRExtended Job Title:Archival Associate - TTU - SWC/SCL ManuscriptsPosition Description:This paraprofessional position holds responsibilities that may involve supervision of a work unit and/or the undertaking of specialized work requiring a high level of expertise, such as cataloging or processing of manuscript collections. Independent judgment and a comprehensive knowledge of tasks are used to accomplish the mission of the unit. Work is performed under general supervision within established policies with latitude for independent judgment. Evaluation is based upon a review of completed work and overall results obtained.Requisition ID:39719BRTravel Required:Up to 25%Major/Essential Functions:

Processing of manuscript materials as assigned. Process collections in an efficient manner according to accepted archival principles and criteria delineated in the "Operating Procedures Hand-guide for Manuscript Processing for the SWC/SCL."

Produces finding aids. Types, copies, proos, and assists in the distribution of inventories. Must do initial and timely editing of inventories or finding aids with minimal supervision. Accuracy is important.

Assists with maintenance of collections including determining locations, maintaining locator lists, and assisting in storing collections after processing is complete. Organizes, stores, tracks, and shelves manuscript collections.

Assists the Unit Manager with reference-related inquiries and with locating collections in a timely manner.

Aids with pickups of local collections. This may include boxing materials or transferring materials from one container to another.

Assists Unit Manager (Registrar) in accessioning new materials, maintaining records in the database, labeling boxes, distributing materials to appropriate interim storage, and assisting Unit Manager with various donation records and files.

Aids the SWC Archivist and Unit Manager with monitoring building security and maintenance as it relates to the SWC manuscripts processing area, accessions area, and stacks area.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Familiar with and able to use Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Able to work effectively both individually and as part of a team.

Capable of effectively organizing work toward the completion of multiple simultaneous projects.

Possess strong attention to detail, legible handwriting, and the ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.

Degree in History or related field.

Experience working in an archive or repository.

Experience with Encoded Archival Description (EAD) and/or XML.

Experience processing archival manuscript collections.

High proficiency with computers, word processing, and data entry using Microsoft Access and Excel.

Ability to communicate well and in a collegial, courteous, and attentive manner with co-workers and donors.
