With hospitals in Lufkin Livingston and San Augustine St. Luke’s Health-Memorial provides millions of dollars in charity care and community support each year.ResponsibilitiesUnder the guidance of the Market Director and Facility Supervisor of Respiratory/Cardiopulmonary Services, established departmental policies and procedures, and specific instructions, the Echo Technologist II provides diagnostic testing and therapies assigned that include echocardiograms, pulmonary function studies, EEG’s, Cardiac Stress Testing and Holter-Monitoring. Maintains patient safety through attention to detail, equipment safety checks, adherence to department policies, and effective communication with physicians, staff and patients. Provides patient orientation, procedure explanation, and pre and post diagnostic care to completion of test. Assists patients with basic patient care needs. Coordinates patient flow and the activities of the Cardiopulmonary department. Responsible for proper maintenance of equipment, accreditation, and Departmental Performance Improvement.

Provides diagnostic test to individuals in all age categories including geriatric, adult, and adolescents to aid in diagnosing disease processes.

Practices as a member of the healthcare team in a manner for which the main consideration is the patients, physicians, peers, visitors and other professionals. Works in all patient care areas including critical and non-critical locations.

Works to reflect the highest achievable quality as defined by departmental and professional standards.

Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with mission vision and values of St. Luke’s Health Memorial.

Participates in hospital/departmental quality projects that enhance their skills and patient care outcomes.

Participates in hospital/departmental educational programs as required.

Accountable for certifications and records required to perform job.

Represent St. Luke’s Health Memorial in physician, community relations and vendors in a professional/accountable manner.

Demonstrates willingness to follow the chain of command, regularly channels suggestions, criticisms and questions to the appropriate person.

Supports department-based goals and contributes to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.

Consistently enters correct exam information in computer system.

Regularly practices aseptic techniques and utilizes Universal Precautions.

Rotates weekend/call responsibilities in a professional and accountable fashion if applicable.

Provides the requesting physician with preliminary findings based on diagnostic criteria established for each procedure.

Demonstrates willingness to follow the chain of command, regularly channels suggestions, criticisms and questions to the appropriate person.

Supports department-based goals and contributes to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.

Consistently enters correct exam information in computer system.

Regularly practices aseptic techniques and utilizes Universal Precautions.

Rotates weekend/call responsibilities in a professional and accountable fashion if applicable.

Provides the requesting physician with preliminary findings based on diagnostic criteria established for each procedure.

Attends departmental meetings/ hospital continuing education and participates in department and hospital activities.

Maintains safe work habits; adheres to safety rules; immediately reports any unsafe condition; immediately reports any incident / injury.

Performs duties in accordance with that of St. Luke’s Health Memorial and departmental policies and procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QualificationsEducation and Experience Required:

High School/GED

Preferred: Graduate of an accredited echocardiography program

Licensure / Certification Required:

BLS certification (through an approved AHA program)

Registered through either American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography - ARDMS (RDCS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International – CCI (RCS)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Perform the duties stated under position responsibilities.

Communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians and general staff as part of a team in a professional manner at all times.

Interpersonal skills for communication with patients, visitors, physicians and other team members.
