Responsible for all phases of program development and coordination of program activities.Description of Duties
Administers, coordinates and manages activities involved in assigned program in support of government relations.
Develops and implements standards for attainment of program goals and objectives. Maintains frequent interaction with University departments, special groups and external agencies and organizations.
Works with stakeholders to implement and support internships at the state and local level.
Collaborates on government relations strategy with other relevant stakeholders, including Colleges, state and national associations, student organizations, Chambers of Commerce, Economic Development Corporations and government relations staff from other agencies and industry.
Recommends new policies and procedures for improvement of program activities.
Coordinates staff training and development.
May provide guidance to subordinate staff and evaluates performance.
Prepares abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedures written material and documentation.
Creates and reviews reports of expenditures and activities.
Oversees financial management of all program activities.
Determines work priorities.
Works on special projects as assigned.
Attends professional development seminars.
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR GOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS
Identifies and tracks federal and state legislation and city and county actions that are relevant to the university, including the medical school.
Supports government relations strategy with other relevant stakeholders, including Colleges, state and national associations, student organizations and government relations staff from other agencies and industry.
Engages constituents inside and outside the University in support of the university’s government relations agenda as assigned by the Director or other leadership.
Assists in the coordination of meetings with federal and state legislators, agencies, medical school dean, county commissioners, city officials, economic development offices and others relating to federal/national, state, city and county matters impacting university.
Supports the Director in the management of the department.
Serves on special committees, projects, and task forces as assigned, including those that benefit the School of Medicine as well as the general academic unit.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Five (5) years of experience performing closely related duties, including program planning/coordination or related experience in the appropriate field of the program,or
Three (3) years of the required experience with a Master’s degree,or

Nine (9) years of the required experience with a High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred ExperienceExperience in contract negotiations.EquipmentUse of standard office equipment.Working ConditionsNeeds to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office environment: some travel and weekend work is required.
