participating in the sport assigned.POSITION FUNCTION / PURPOSE :Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.Provide instruction and coach students to develop skill and ability to excel in the sport assigned.Responsible for contributing to the educational program as a whole and to the growth of each student.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :Instructional ManagementDevelop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistant(s) and / or volunteer(s).Employ the use of technologies in the teaching / learning process.Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of studyEstablish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions that promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanshipMonitor and enforce student academic eligibility criteria for extra-curricular participation.Cooperate with other members of the school staff in planning and implementing instructional goals and objectives for the overall educational development of student athletes.Work with athletic director in scheduling competitions and coordinating arrangements.Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional material.Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student athlete group and sport involvedManage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions that promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities, both in classroom and athletic facilities.Keep informed of and ensure compliance with all UIL rules.Monitor and enforce student academic eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.Work with athletic director in scheduling competitions and coordinating arrangements.Cooperate with other members of the school staff in planning and implementing instructional goals and objectives for the overall educational development of student athletes Student Growth and Development.Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records and other documents required.Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and the local board in area of athletics.Student Growth and DevelopmentAssess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.Assume responsibility for duties and / or extra-curricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities approved by the school.Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.School / Organization ClimateCreate a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.Assist before, during, and after the school day in the supervision of students as assigned by the principal.Promote a positive work environment and positive staff morale within the school.Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.Establish and maintain open lines of communication with colleagues, students and their parents.School / Organization documents required.Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :Supervise assigned teacher assistant(s), if applicable.Supervise assigned assistant coaches and student athletic assistants.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :Be eligible for the appropriate Probationary Certificate through a TEA approved Teacher Certification Program.Knowledge of subjects assigned.General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures.Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL)
