Sets up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members. On most projects the crane and rigging department sets the cranes for steel erection.
The use of tag lines will be required on all members that are hoisted.
Have knowledge of how members are fastened.
Be able to understand the principal fundamentals of installing steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.
Have knowledge to install members into final position, using turnbuckles, sleever bars, porta powers, and hand tools.
Aligns holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member by using drift pins, bull pins, spud wrenches, and sleever bars.
Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place.
Have the ability and knowledge to modify steel members to make alterations, using oxyacetylene welding equipment or grinders with metal cutting discs.
Assists in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and structural members during installation.
Unloads materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
Must be punctual and maintain a dependable level of attendance in accordance to project work rules.
Other duties as assigned.
