Assistant Controller Company Profile San Antonio Shoemakers (SAS), a San Antonio, Texas based privately held company, has been in business for over 40 years and has developed a reputation as a premier American manufacturer of high quality comfort footwear. Position SAS is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Accounting Department as Assistant Controller. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for the Financial and Administrative aspects of the Maquiladora Operation, Financial reporting and analyses, inventory controls and valuation, and other special analysis. Job Responsibilities

Direct and develop the organization's accounting principles, practices, procedures, and initiatives.

Work with local teams to ensure timely and accurate filing of statutory reports in applicable countries. Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting closes.

Ensure accurate application of cost accounting practices and procedures.

Build budgets and coordinate monthly and quarterly variance analysis.

Develop, monitor, and oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial, administrative, and internal controls necessary to safeguard all assets and assure integrity in the financial reporting.

Own the ongoing external international audit relationship and possess the ability to assess and conclude on technical accounting and financial issues.

Responsible for ensuring proper internal controls are in place, are consistently being monitored and in compliance with applicable audit requirements.

Work closely with Finance and Manufacturing departments to provide required accounting, analysis, and reporting information.

Direct staff in the development, analysis, and preparation of reports, metric and dashboard. Act on metric results to drive change within the department to improve the accounts payable processes.

Plan and oversee the development of solutions to enhance efficiencies with other departments including partnering with cross-functional teams to achieve required results.

Execute strategic initiatives designed to ensure long term process improvement, cost reductions, and increased efficiencies for Mexico and US.

Develop, train, and evaluate performance of assigned personnel.

Assist in the formulation and implementation of goals and objectives for the organization.

Provide leadership in the continuous evaluation and implementation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.

Work on other projects as needed for the US and Mexico operations.

Job Qualifications

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment, while maintaining a professional demeanor.

Display strong attention to detail

Must possess ability to exercise confidentiality.

Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLookups, etc)

Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

Strong leadership skills that are displayed through leading by example, and treating people with respect.

Education & Experience Requirements

Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Related Field.

CPA or MBA highly desirable.

Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Experience with Enterprise systems and system implementations a plus.

Experience in manufacturing/retail environment a plus.

Experience in Cost Accounting within a manufacturing environment.

Experience in maquiladora operation in Mexico is a plus.

Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Travel required when necessary.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit or stand for 8 to 10 hours in an office environment

Ability to input data (typing) into a computer for long periods
