Summary About the Position: This position is located in San Antonio, Texas, with the Defense Health Agency. Responsibilities Serves as the Database Management System (DBMS) Administrator on different computer platforms used at DHA. Deploys, configures, patches, and secures the operating system with the approved tools and software provided by the enterprise. Administers and maintains commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software that support monitoring and performance of enterprise DBMS servers, instances, and databases. Explores and researches new DBMS technologies, best practices, and trending COTS software used for housing/hosting databases. Serves as a member of an ad hoc committee dealing with requirements or specifications in evaluating system hardware or software. Administers changes for Security Technical Implementation Guides compliance, schedules backups for data files, responsible for Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVA) and Patch management and/or resolution of MHS Helpdesk trouble tickets. Basic Requirement for IT SPECIALIST (DATA MANAGEMENT): Specialized and Other Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring enterprise databases, participating in new technology research, and providing recommendations to the project team. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). The specialized experience must include, or be supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined: (1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
