TOUR OF DUTY: Full-time, Part-time, Intermittent. TYPE OF POSITION: Temporary not to exceed 1 year. May be extended. Will not become permanent. Responsibilities Claims Specialists conduct interviews with the public to obtain, clarify, and verify information about initial and continuing eligibility for retirement, survivors, disability, health insurance benefits, and eligibility for supplemental security income including State supplements. In addition, they resolve discrepancies, clarify issues and make final decisions for initial and post-entitlement for benefits and payments; adjudicate and authorize entitlement or disallowance actions at all levels of difficulty and complexity under programs administered by SSA. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-9 level or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include developing, examining, investigating or authorizing of claims under a program for SSA benefits, health insurance, pension plan, income maintenance or related programs. The following time-in-grade requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Applicants must have 52 weeks at the GS-09 or higher. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT INTERVIEW PROCESS (CAIP) INTERVIEW - Applicants will be required to participate in a panel interview (after basic eligibility determination) to demonstrate an aptitude for meeting and dealing with the public. Applicants must pass this interview process in order to be found fully qualified for this position and receive further consideration for selection. This interview will cover typical situations, which might be encountered on the job, in person or over the telephone. Experience and education will be computed as percentages of the overall requirements and must equal to 100 percent when combined. Additional Information In addition to the minimum qualifications, applicants must be eligible under one of the following categories: Displaced or surplus Federal employees eligible under the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) who have held a GS-11 or above, and in the commuting area of the listed duty locations. Summary About the Position: This position is with the 63rd Readiness Division, Equipment Concentration Site 2 located in San Antonio, Texas. Responsibilities Conduct inspections of heavy mobile equipment and vehicle components repaired by shop personnel. Conduct inspections on a variety of combustion powered automotive vehicles and trucks. Use technical manuals and manufacturer specifications to determine requirements. Evaluate work completed to ensure it has been completed in accordance with standards and specifications. Ensure quality control is maintained. Review work/job orders. Post repairs or services to appropriate records. Complete a variety of inspection reports and forms. Troubleshoot equipment, make adjustments, remove and replace parts, accessories and components. Refer discrepancies to shop supervisor for appropriate action. Work frequently requires climbing on top of equipment or crawling under equipment to work on the various components. You will frequently have to bend, reach, stretch and crouch. Work is strenuous, often requiring the lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 50 pounds. You will also push, pull, and turn heavy parts and equipment. You will move heavier items with assistance of other workers. Working Conditions: Work inside and outside where you will be exposed to drafts, dirt, grease and vehicle fumes. You will be exposed to some inclement weather such as rain, snow, cold, and freezing temperatures; and may be required to work in mud and wet or icy areas when outdoors.
