The AVP serves as chief student advocate, updating the campus community on trends related to student rights and responsibilities, student development, student wellbeing, student engagement and success. The AVP will lead in the development and operation of a student-wellbeing unit with the Division of Student Engagement and Success.The Assistant Vice President for Student Wellbeing is responsible for federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to higher education mandates including Hazing, Title IX, Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, and The Higher Education Act. As the chief student conduct officer for the campus, the AVP is responsible for the development, interpretation, and enforcement of the University's educational community standards and serves as a resource to students, parents, faculty and staff.The Assistant Vice President of Student Wellbeing, serves as the Dean of Students and provides leadership and oversight to the Dean of Students Administrative Office, Associate Dean of Student Wellbeing, Director of Student Rights & Responsibilities, Director of Counseling Center, and Director of the Health Center.This is an in-office position located in Stephenville, TX. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm. On occasion work hours may include operations outside normal business hours and/or weekends, as work requirements indicate. Serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA). Must be able to work remotely at the request of the University.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:40% Administration and Operations: Oversees the coordination, development, and implementation of student well-being programs and services, evaluate outcomes and provide reports of general wellness, primary prevention, and education activities. Provides leadership in the areas of personnel management, planning, programming, facility management, strategic planning, budgeting, evaluation, contract administration, policy development and implementation for all reporting departments (Dean of Students Administrative Office, Student Resources & Basic Needs, Purple Pantry, University Counseling, and Health Center). Supervise four direct reports (Associate Dean of Student Wellbeing, Director of Student Rights & Responsibility, Director of Counseling Center, and Director of Health Center). Assist the Vice President with overall division operations. Assume additional supervisory and management responsibilities in the Vice President’s absence. Plays a key role in the implementation of the Division’s strategic plan.20% Policy & Compliance Management: Provide leadership and guidance in analysis, review, creation and interpretation of student policies and their operational impact institutionally and beyond. Oversee the revision of existing, and development of new policies related to students, including annual updates to the Student Handbook, ensuring that all policies are appropriate and consistent with all other published university policies. Leads the Divisional compliance efforts and ensure the university follows all federal, state, and local laws and regulations like Title IX, Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, Hazing, The Higher Education Act. Assist in the coordination of the response to major crises and other unusual events impacting students in the University community.20% Strategic Initiatives: Develop key relationships with campus administrative areas, faculty, and campus leaders to plan and implement strategic initiatives, develop partnerships and collaborations, resolve issues, and promote a sense of seamlessness in students curricular and co-curricular learning. Collaborate with university partners to identify and cultivate external funding opportunities (e.g., state, and federal grants, donors, etc.) to support student well-being initiatives.20% Additional Duties: Serves as the Designated Administrator, hearing, and appellate officer for Title IX cases. Leads, coordinates, and serves on a variety of university committees and task forces including Campus Assessment, Response and Education (C.A.R.E.) Team; Clery Counting and Compliance Council; Admissions Disclosure Review Committee; Campus Ethics, Compliance and ERM Committee; Title IX/Civil Rights Compliance Committee; Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs (CAOD); Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) and others as assigned by the Vice President.Required Education & Experience:

Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Development, Leadership, Counseling or closely related field.

5 years of full-time professional experience in an educational administrative environment in student affairs or related field with increasing level of responsibility in a higher education setting; supervision of staff; supervision of mental health professionals (counselors, social workers, case workers), administration of budget; strategic planning and assessment; risk management.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of the Clery Act, Title IX, and other federal and legal regulations, policies, and guidance related to student conduct processes and procedures in higher education.

Understanding and knowledge of student development theory, crisis management in the context of student affairs, mental health, case management, and prevention.

Skilled in crisis intervention and suicide prevention/intervention.

Strong competency skills in counseling, supervision, and consultation.

Understanding of the needs of first-generation, minoritize, and at-risk students.

Knowledge and experience working with student success programs to increase retention.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effective public relations and networking abilities.

Ability to work collaboratively with other departments on campus.

Preferred Qualifications & ExperienceLPC-S: Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in the State of Texas.8 years or more of full-time professional experience in an educational administrative environment in student affairs or related field with increasing level of responsibility in a higher education setting; supervision of staff; administration of budget; strategic planning and assessment; risk management.Experience working in three (3) or more of the following Student Affairs areas: Behavioral Intervention, Student Conduct, Title IX, Food Insecurity, Advocacy, Counseling, Health Services, and Dean of Students Office.Doctorate degree in Higher Education, Student Development, Leadership, Counseling, or closely related fieldSalaryCommensurate with experienceThe target base annual salary is commensurate with experience and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
