The Lawn and Grounds Maintenance person is a vital part of our team, maintaining safe and welcoming grounds for visitors and supporting healthy production and retail environments. Your primary responsibility will be to operate a tractor mounted mower and, occasionally, use a push mower and handheld string trimmer to cut grass in our fields.
Our organization has a deep commitment to developing regenerative agriculture practices for our vegetable and flower production farm and to educating consumers about the need to support farms who are committed to growing food in a manner that improves and nourishes the soil. We are looking for a team player who likes to be outside and is eager to be involved in a mission driven organization.
If you would like to work more than 20 hours, for the right candidate there is the possibility of working with other departments to fill out a fuller summer schedule.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain field edges, lawn panels, farm roads and retail areas by mowing grass and string trimming
Ensure equipment is in good working order prior to and during use and communicate any issues with Facilities Manager
Proactively communicate workload and equipment needs with FM
Assist FM with occasional projects (moving picnic tables, mower maintenance, fence repair)
Assist other teams and departments with special projects as requested
Contribute to welcoming, dedicated work environment
Participate in educational activities or events as required and pre-arranged by Education Program Manager
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Ability to operate mowers and trimmers independently. Training can be provided.
Excellent time management skills and ability to self manage in the field
Consistent attention to detail
Ability to take directions and receive feedback gracefully
Ability to work independently most of the time and with teams on occasion
Sufficient physical strength, mobility and endurance to operate string trimmer and push mower and to get off of riding mower frequently to remove or lift obstacles
Ability to work for long durations in inclement weather –pushing, standing, or sitting
Some weekly availability for early morning or evening hours necessary (retail area maintenance to be completed outside of business hours- approximately 4-5 hours per week)
Availability from April until October
Valid Driver’s License to operate farm vehicles on the road
COMPENSATION
This is a seasonal, hourly position with benefits including sick time accrual, a 403(b) retirement plan, fresh produce, and a discount to our farmstand. Salary range is $15-17/hr, depending on qualifications.
