Job SummaryThe Track and Structures (TRST) Mechanic is responsible for any of the following: (i) inspecting and maintaining all rail lubricators throughout the transit system; (ii) ensuring TRST forklift trucks are maintained at optimal operational capacity to facilitate the safe and efficient transport of rail components, materials, and performs various duties within the rail yard; and (iii) conducting inspections of contractor Hi-Rail Equipment for TRST projects.Essential Functions
Performs scheduled inspections and required adjustments, troubleshooting, proper cleaning and excess grease removal and repairs of all grease lubricator machines throughout the transit system.
Operates lubricator machines, ensuring proper functionality of digital control box and proper flow of lubricant through wiper bar. Performs operational checks on various components, including the charging system, wheel sensors and the power take-off for proper lubrication distribution during operation.
Responds to and assists related to operational emergencies which require inspection and/or repair of grease lubricators.
Schedules, inspections and repairs and performs preventive maintenance on forklifts and forklift trucks. Diagnoses and performs mechanical services and electrical and hydraulic repairs on a variety of power equipment. Maintains records of Preventative Maintenance and Inspection and repairs in Maximo.
Inspects and tests equipment for mechanical defects and removes, replaces, adjusts and/or cleans defective or worn parts and components. Determines, within prescribed value range, when a major component assembly is to be repaired, rebuilt, replaced or discarded.
Assists the Supply Chain department with the purchasing of parts and services, interacting with vendors to keep up the necessary parts needed for repairs. May be required to utilizes purchase card to buy and maintain parts inventory.
Performs thorough inspections of contractor Hi Rail equipment. Inspects all major safety features, such as, but not limited to, warning alarms, fire extinguisher equipment, and all work lights and assures contractor equipment adheres/conforms to all Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) safety standards.
