Job AnnouncementPerforms more complex tasks related to security equipment installation and service to include all access control, burglary alarm, and security camera systems, to optimize the security of employees and visitors, and the security of physical assets of the Fairfax County Government. Diagnoses and repairs of all access control, burglary alarm, and security camera systems. Determines the extent of repair or replacement of components, devices, and methods to be utilized for all security equipment and systems to include all access control, burglary alarm and security camera systems. Programs integration (Programing) of access control, alarms, and security camera systems into the county’s systems. Provides technical response to assist the county’s security team as needed for special assignments. Works u nder general supervision of the Security Systems Project Manager (SSPM). Additional Work Schedule Requirements: Emergency Operation Center (EOC) activations may require 12 hour or longer shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, maybe required to report to work regardless of the emergency situation. Installs and maintains closed-circuit television equipment and systems used for the inspection of inaccessible areas, such as the interior of sewer lines;

Performs installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair work on electronic equipment, such as test instruments, video and audio recording equipment, public address systems and two-way radios, and services equipment on location when necessary;

Uses a variety of test equipment, test procedures, schematic diagrams, and technical specifications to diagnose and isolate malfunctions;

Maintains a sufficient inventory of spare parts, repair tools, and equipment;

Initiates procurement of replacement supplies and equipment as necessary;

Instructs less experienced technicians in the maintenance and operation of equipment and systems;

Maintains current knowledge of statutory electrical codes and requirements, and of new technological developments in the relevant field of electronics;

Keeps accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and work performed;

Acts as lead or single technician in the more complex projects;

Supervises the unit in the absence of the supervisor.

Thorough knowledge of the electronic and electromechanical principles and processes relevant to the assigned area;

Ability to diagnose complex problems and malfunctions in electronic equipment and systems, and to prescribe solutions;

Ability to plan, schedule, and complete installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment and systems;

Ability to read and work from manuals, schematics, and drawings;

Ability to operate the required power and hand tools and test equipment;

Ability to train new and less experienced technicians;

Ability to keep accurate records and generate accurate reports;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and customers.

Employment StandardsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: High school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; plus completion of an apprentice-level vocational training program in electronics; and two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of the electronic and electromechanical equipment specific to the position.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of equipment used for multiple security access control, alarm, and video surveillance systems.

Knowledge of Honeywell Winpak, Exacqvision, digital monitoring products and digital security controls.

Knowledge of operational guidelines, protocol, and administration of all requirements of security electronic and monitoring systems.

Ability to diagnose and repair cameras, video management systems, access control systems, and intrusion detection systems.

Skills and ability to communicate and work with contractors on small- and large-scale projects.

Ability to work with multiple end users and clients.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to utilize Microsoft Office software to include Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check and pre-employment medical evaluation to the satisfaction of the employer. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time (i.e., up to four hours continuously). Good dexterity is required for hands-on work. Good eyesight and able to differentiate colors. Must be able to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Must be able to climb up step ladder and or extension ladder.
