Our work depends on Systems Engineer Senior joining our team to support the National Institute of Health (NIH) Center for Information Technology (CIT) Network Services team. In this role you will support the NIH community by contributing to a secure and reliable IT infrastructure and a variety of IT and scientific computing services that support its mission-critical research and administrative activities.HOW A SYSTEMS ENGINEER SENIOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
Perform MS SQL Server and application server administration
Organize and format data for efficient query and storage processes
Coordinate and develop database backup, storage, and replication schemes across the customer's databases
Develop and implement disaster recovery plans
Develop policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the database(s)
Maintain the integrity, security and availability of multiple instances and databases
Perform database and software life-cycle activities to ensure highest level of system performance and availability and compliance with business requirements
Conduct performance tuning and optimization of database systems
Create policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the database, including System Security Plan (SSP) documents

5+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server as a DBA
Proficient in developing and maintaining SSIS packages
Experienced with maintaining the integrity, security, and availability of multiple instances and databases
Skilled in database migrations and upgrades
Experienced in coordinating and developing database backup, storage, and replication schemes
Proficient in performance tuning and query optimization
Knowledgeable in developing policies and procedures for database security and integrity
Familiarity with database high availability and disaster recovery solutions
Effective communication skills: ability to achieve consensus with peers and provide clear status updates
Self-motivated and self-managing, with strong organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to work closely with other parts of the organization, both internal and external
Preferred Skills:
Experience migrating databases from on-premises to cloud environments, particularly Azure
Experience with ServiceNow and its APIs
Web Service experience
Familiarity with MariaDB
Microsoft Certified Azure Fundamentals and Azure Database Administrator Associate certifications
Experience with database security compliance (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA)
Knowledge of database monitoring and alerting tools

The likely salary range for this position is $92,331 - $106,181. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.Our benefits package for all US-based employees includes a variety of medical plan options, some with Health Savings Accounts, dental plan options, a vision plan, and a 401(k) plan offering the ability to contribute both pre and post-tax dollars up to the IRS annual limits and receive a company match.
