About the Position
An opportunity is available to support a fun, active, and expressive young adult with autism in both home and community settings. The ideal candidate will be dependable, patient, physically fit, and motivated to help promote independence, safety, and enjoyment in daily life. This is a rewarding, one-on-one caregiving role that offers routine, structure, and connection through engaging activities.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with daily living routines including personal hygiene, bathing, meal support/supervision, dressing, and end-of-day care to an individual in their home in Hampton.
Provide a full PM bath and ensure she is guided and supported in getting dressed and ready for bed before the end of shift (typically 9:00–9:30 PM)
Support structured community outings such as parks, stores, recreational centers, and local events
Provide calm, consistent redirection when frustration or behavioral challenges arise.
Monitor for any health or safety concerns and follow established support strategies
Transport using your own insured vehicle to and from scheduled locations (minimum)
Requirements
Must have a reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, current insurance, and a stable residence
Must be punctual, dependable, and consistent
Must pass a background check and drug screening
Must be physically able to engage in active tasks such as walking, playing ball, and recreational outings
Comfortable providing personal care (bathing, hygiene, dressing) with dignity and respect
Experience with autism or developmental disabilities is a plus but not required
Compensation Details
Pay: $15–$16/hour, paid weekly
Status: 1099 Independent Contractor (responsible for your own taxes)
One 30-minute unpaid lunch break per scheduled shift
(If you own your home in 757 (VA Beach; Norfolk is a +), have a clean record, and display quality attributes during your employment this role can advance to a role as a full time sponsor which pays $4,200 to $9,450 per month per individual (up to 2 in each home). A sponsor contracts to have adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities live in their home with them and they provide 24/7 care for the individual who has moved in with them. Some individuals go to school, work, or other day support programs during the day providing respite).
Pays more for sponsors who are LPNs, RNs, Med Techs, Medical Assistants, CNAs, and PCAs.
