Architectural History Technician

Dutton + Associates, a Timmons Group company (D+A), is seeking a full-time, entry-level Architectural History Technician for our Cultural Resources Group based in our Richmond, VA office location. The Architectural History Technician position is responsible for assisting the architectural history team with investigations involving historic buildings, structures, landscapes, and a wide variety of related property types. They will work collaboratively with other members of the architectural history team and the overall cultural resources group to ensure that project goals are met.Some regional overnight travel is expected.Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:Conducting historical surveys, and preparing detailed architectural and historical reports and conducting archival research as necessaryAssembling historic resource site file forms, site maps, and photographsEvaluating the significance of historic resources according to established criteria, such as the National Register of Historic PlacesPerforming other duties as required.Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to: B.A. in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or closely related field from a recognized program; graduate degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation preferred1-2 years previous experience in Cultural Resource Management preferredPossess a strong understanding of architectural styles, construction techniques, and the historical context of buildings and landscapesStrong writing and verbal communications skills and ability to communicate and interact with other members of the team, clients, and the publicAbility to work on simultaneous tasks while meeting project deadlines and adhering to project budgetsExperience in conducting land records research including chain-of-title, property taxes, and willsAbility to work both independently as well as collaborate on a teamExperience using ArcGIS preferredPossess a valid driver’s licenseAbility to read and navigate maps
