The laboratory technical assistant performs tasks to support the laboratory technical staff in specimen procurement, specimen processing and performs basic non-interpretive analytic procedures under the direct supervision of the technical staff.The laboratory assistant assumes responsibility and accountability for following established policies utilizing C.A.R.E. principles as defined by the Mission Statement of the hospital.
Collects blood specimens per standard operating procedure.
Performs pre-analytic specimen processing.
Performs bacteriology set-up and media preparation.
Assists in computer testing and validation procedures.
Assists in inventory control procedures, including performing a physical inventory, ordering supplies and receipt of supplies.
Certificaitons: MLT, MT or MLS (ASCP) eligible within 24 months by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) or actively working to fulfill the necessary requirements.
