Our Plumber Mechanics and Pipefitters will layout, fabricate, assemble, and install plumbing and piping systems on large commercial and industrial construction projects. A day in the life:

Layout, fabricate, assemble, install, maintains piping and piping systems, fittings, fixtures of heating, /water/ drainage systems, piping, piping systems, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial processing systems

Cut pipe using pipe cutters, port-a-band saw, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine

Thread pipe, using a threading machine

Join piping using welded, grooved, threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints

Test piping systems for leaks

Maintain a clean and safe work area

Works safely, encourage others to do so, and complies with applicable health and safety-related rules, regulations, and procedures

Perform other duties as directed by job site supervisor

Pipefitter:

Assembles and installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, and plastic

Installs and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping

May weld holding fixtures to structural steel members

You should have:

Work experience as a Plumber Mechanic or Pipefitter for commercial construction projects. (Journeyman level experience is preferred, but not required)

Experience with layouts and ability to read and work from drawings

Ability to direct and support the work of a helper or apprentice

Safety-minded and knowledge of OSHA safety regulations

Initiative; self-motivated, self-starter

Knowledge of basic construction/shop math

Knowledge of International Plumbing Code (IPC)

Positive attitude and willing to work in a team environment

Ability to work without direct supervision

A reliable source of transportation to and from work

  • Summary This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (YA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Richmond VA Medical Center (VAMC), in Engineering Service. The primary duties of this position involve maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related fixtures, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plastering, painting, and other related trades. Responsibilities Carpentry - Uses skilled techniques to construct, install, repair, and modify wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness. Typical work assignments include constructing and repairing a wide variety of structural items such as building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases, door and window frames, interior and exterior trim, and miscellaneous items such as workbenches, counter tops, bookcases, equipment cabinets, computer consoles, and items requiring limited decorative trim and molding. The incumbent lays out and installs various modular furniture assemblies. The incumbent sets up and operates a wide variety of wood working machines and tools.
